Domestic coffee price developments

At 5:00 a.m. on April 18, 2025, coffee prices in the Central Highlands continued to increase slightly compared to yesterday, the increase ranged from 700 - 800 VND/kg. Currently, the average purchase price is recorded at 133,700 VND/kg.

Specifically, coffee in Dak Lak is traded at 133,700 VND/kg; Lam Dong reaches 132,700 VND/kg; Gia Lai maintains the level of 133,700 VND/kg and Dak Nong is currently at 133,800 VND/kg.

Arabica coffee is currently at a 10-day high, while Robusta is at a more than two-and-a-half-week high. Robusta inventories monitored by ICE have fallen sharply to just 4,227 lots, the lowest in three-and-a-half months.

In addition to inventory, the weakening of the USD index to a three-year low along with US-China trade tensions also provided a boost to coffee prices. Although the two sides are negotiating, tax policies still put pressure on the commodity market in general, including coffee.

In addition, weather in Brazil has also contributed to the volatility in coffee prices. Some rain in Minas Gerais has eased drought concerns, but analysts are still closely monitoring climate developments in key coffee growing regions.

Pepper prices edge up domestically and remain stable globally

In Binh Phuoc, pepper prices remained stable, continuing to anchor at 157,000 VND/kg.

Pepper prices in Dak Nong today continue to remain high, reaching 159,000 VND/kg.

In Dak Lak, pepper prices fluctuated little and remained stable, with the highest purchase price recorded at 159,000 VND/kg.

According to an update from the International Pepper Community (IPC) at 5:00 a.m. on April 18, 2025, the world pepper market remained stable after many volatile sessions.

In detail, Indonesian Lampung black pepper is currently priced at USD 7,051/ton; Muntok white pepper is offered at USD 9,634/ton.

In Malaysia, the pepper market is stable with ASTA black pepper price reaching USD 9,600/ton and ASTA white pepper being traded at USD 12,100/ton.

In Brazil, pepper prices remained stable at a purchase price of 6,850 USD/ton.

Vietnam's pepper market continued to move sideways compared to the previous session, with the export price of 500 g/l black pepper at 6,800 USD/ton, 550 g/l at 6,900 USD/ton, while white pepper reached 9,800 USD/ton.

This year's pepper crop in Vietnam is almost complete. In Dak Nong, growers have finished harvesting. Dak Lak, which accounts for about 30% of the country's pepper output, has now harvested about 80-90% of its area. Some localities such as Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dong Nai have also almost finished the season.

In Quang Tri province, pepper output is forecast to drop sharply by 60 to 70 percent compared to normal due to negative weather impacts. Each year, this locality usually produces about 1,000 tons.

High profits from durian and coffee crops in the last crop season have led many farmers to choose to keep pepper after harvest instead of selling it immediately. This hoarding has led to a shortage of supply even though the crop has just ended, contributing to expectations of price increases in the coming time.

The pepper market is currently in a state of supply shortage. Some experts believe that pepper prices can completely recover to the 200,000 VND/kg mark. At its peak, pepper prices reached 230,000 VND/kg while gold prices were only 35 million VND/tael, but currently gold prices have exceeded 120 million VND/tael.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) is actively implementing trade promotion programs to expand the market. It is expected that from June 28 to July 8, pepper businesses will participate in surveys in the US and Brazil, and attend the Anuga 2025 international food fair in Germany and the Netherlands from October 2 to October 11. Selected units will receive financial support from the state to promote exports.
