On the evening of September 6, the Rock band Bức Tường released the MV Mùa Hè Đi Qua, in collaboration with singer Phạm Anh Khoa . This is a song in the album Cân BA released in April, which is loved by many people. Following the story-telling direction, the MV is set in a collective housing area with many simple, authentic images. Through that, a student love story is recreated with many emotions: from pure, sweet to wistful, regretful.

PV Dan Viet had a conversation with guitarist Tran Tuan Hung - Head of the band Buc Tuong about this comeback, as well as his passion for the Rock music genre:

The Wall "travels through time" in the new MV

Why did The Wall choose the song " Mùa Hè đi qua" to make this MV? Did comments on social media saying that this was the best song on the album "Bình bát" influence that decision?

- Summer Passing is a work with a different, youthful and fresh color in the album Balance, and is always in the top songs with the highest number of listens on digital music platforms. Through the song, Buc Tuong wants to introduce to the audience more about himself, about the changes, the breath of the times.

If you have listened to the works in the two latest albums of Bức Tường, everyone will agree with our wish to "make MVs for all the songs", because each song is a different story and brings positive values to life.

What is the difference in this MV, compared to the MV "Balance" made 4 months ago?

- The first difference is that the MV Mua he dua qua was made in Ho Chi Minh City with the crew in it. Next is that there is a story that the director made like a short film, in which Buc Tuong does not appear much, sometimes participating as supporting actors. What is even more interesting is that the members of Buc Tuong appear "through time", "through space" from when the characters are children to adulthood. We are still there to witness their story, just like how Buc Tuong exists to witness the changes of society over the past 30 years.

There is a very interesting scene at the end of the MV, when the band transforms into decrepit old men but still plays music with all their heart. This must be the desire of The Wall after many ups and downs before?

- That was the idea of director Tran Trung Linh. We spent a lot of time on makeup, adding beards, spraying gray hair and drawing wrinkles... Then, we looked at each other and laughed, imagining whether we would still be able to play music together in 20 or 30 years if we looked like this. I think that if we have good health, nothing is impossible, old men will still play music with that passion, and what could be better than that!

Need more sponsors for Vietnamese Rock

After many efforts of artists and the appearance of the game show "Rock Viet", Rock music in Vietnam still seems unable to return as expected. Many bands that participated in Rock Viet achieved success but now have disbanded. Do you feel a little regretful about that?

- As I have shared before, the Vietnamese Rock game show is just a small catalyst and cannot ignite a big fire. Rock or any other genre needs more than that to develop. It needs many sponsors, many playgrounds and that will have an immediate positive impact.

I have a friend who sells musical instruments and he said that recently, the number of electric guitars being bought by students has been increasing, and his practice room is always fully booked with young rock bands. This shows that the interest and love of young people for this music genre is increasing every day. Hopefully, in the near future, Rock will strongly return to the vibrant music market.

In the world, rock stars often have very good incomes, even outstanding. But in Vietnam, they often have quieter lives than their colleagues. Why do you think there is this difference?

- Wherever a music genre is popular and has many listeners, artists who play that genre will "reign". One day, when Rock becomes more popular in Vietnam, the community of listeners is large, supported by management agencies and media units, the income of Rock artists will certainly be better.

Recently, many Rock bands have combined Rock music with other music genres to create something new and different. Does Buc Tuong plan to do that?

- The combination of Rock with other music genres is not new. The Wall has also done it by putting the moon lute or bamboo flute and folk sounds into the song, or in 2020, there was a combination with rappers. But I think that will only be a single change and innovation to create a strange taste dish on the table, but the nature of the music genres is very clear, especially Rock. What I always want is to create really good and original rock music.

Are you afraid that The Wall's music will be repetitive over time?

- I'm just afraid of repeating bad things and bringing products with little emotion. What makes us really happy is when many audiences say that the new works of Buc Tuong sound "fresh, youthful but still very Buc Tuong".

Thanks for sharing!
