Reporting to the Ministry of Transport on solutions to handle weak points, the Vietnam Railway Authority has just proposed allocating capital to implement the Project to Improve and Enhance the Capacity of the Vinh - Nha Trang Section of the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City Railway.
The project focuses on route improvement, replacing the upper-level architecture combined with rail welding, and improving the roadbed to handle transportation bottlenecks, increase throughput capacity in restricted sections, thereby promoting synchronous and efficient exploitation.

Vietnam Railways proposes more than 1,900 billion to improve the capacity of the Vinh - Nha Trang railway section (Photo: illustration).
Regarding the investment scale, 9 local points/8.75km long will be rerouted, including 19 small radius curves; renovating restricted sections with a length of 72.86km, replacing the upper-level architecture combined with rail welding, renovating culverts, drainage systems and weak roadbeds synchronously to increase train speed, thereby increasing throughput capacity.
At the same time, a new station will be opened at Km 1130 on the Van Canh - Phuoc Lanh section. In addition, if necessary, a new station will be opened in the Thua Luu - Lang Co section.
Total estimated investment is 1,975 billion VND, medium-term public investment capital 2026 - 2031.
According to the Vietnam Railway Authority, on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line, including the Vinh - Nha Trang section, the Ministry of Transport has implemented renovation and upgrading projects such as: Project to replace K1, K2 sleepers, Vinh - Nha Trang iron sleepers (phase 1); project to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line with a capital of 7,000 billion VND for the medium term 2016 - 2020; project to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line with a capital of 3,000 billion VND for the medium term 2021 - 2026. In addition, there are annual periodic repair projects.
However, there are still 481.1km of the route that need to continue replacing old, poor quality P43 rails; 78.1km of the route that need to continue replacing old, poor quality sleepers; and 484 sets of old, low quality tracks that need to be replaced.
Along the entire route, there are 132 vulnerable locations spread over a wide area, mainly at risk of slope landslides; roadbed erosion; erosion of tray toes, bridge abutment cones or causing flooding of the railway...
