Need businesses to participate in research on new energy technology

Prof. Dr. Le Minh Phuong said that the Energy Technology Development and Application Research Program (KC05) structured until 2030 has 50% of the tasks coordinated with businesses.

The information was given by Prof. Dr. Le Minh Phuong, Head of the K05 program, at the conference on orientations for science and technology development in the energy sector for the period 2021 - 2030, on the morning of October 20 in Ho Chi Minh City. Encouraging research on renewable energy is one of the orientations of the KC05 program in this period.

Professor Phuong hopes that more businesses will participate in energy conversion projects, from fossil to renewable, serving technology transfer. The program's goal is to create 70% of production lines and equipment with features equivalent to imported products of the same type, 50% of tasks have applied results, of which 20% of tasks have the potential for commercialization.

The K05 program also encourages research into manufacturing smart devices such as transformers, electric motors, power meters, monitoring devices, etc., along with energy-saving technology solutions, digitalization of energy exploitation and management.

Research on the design and safe operation of research nuclear reactors, radiation safety and radiation applications in medicine, environment... are also encouraged in the program.

Mr. Tran Dinh Quyen, Chairman of Tin Thanh Company, supports the policy of encouraging enterprises to participate, but wants to have a mechanism to assign enterprises to directly implement. Scientists will participate in the role of professional guidance. He said that the company currently has 4 power plant projects nationwide, including using biomass technology using sorghum residue to generate electricity and technology to produce hydrogen from water. "We have capital and partners from the US, ready to cooperate in the form of research topics and build legal documents to develop these projects," Mr. Quyen said.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Hung, Director of the Department of Science and Technology for Economic and Technical Sectors (Ministry of Science and Technology) said that enterprises can propose to participate in the program to carry out scientific and technological tasks. The program management board is responsible for working with enterprises, scientists, and institutes to complete the proposal for implementation. The scientists have the role of providing professional advice and supporting enterprises in developing projects in accordance with the criteria and framework of the program.
