On the morning of March 9, officers and soldiers of agencies and units of Naval Region 5 from the mainland to remote islands simultaneously organized “Volunteer Saturday” with the theme “Youth of Naval Region 5 join hands to protect the environment”. The program had the participation of hundreds of officers and soldiers of agencies and units in the Region.

Officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5, together with union members, youth, cadres, civil servants, organizations, businesses, armed forces, students and local people, have cleaned up the environment, cleared bushes, and trimmed trees that obstructed visibility. Along with that, they organized cleaning of the coast and roads, removed and erased advertisements, classifieds, and leaflets that violated regulations and spoiled the urban beauty on the roads; collected and classified waste and brought it to the treatment site.

The forces also coordinated to organize propaganda and mobilize people to do a good job of forest fire prevention and fighting and civilized urban lifestyle, not to encroach on roads and sidewalks, discharge wastewater and waste in violation of regulations, and limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products to protect the environment and public health.

“Protecting the marine environment because the sea is breath, is life. Preserving the blue color of the sea is preserving the precious “gift” bestowed by nature” is the motto for every activity of each officer and soldier of Naval Region 5 Command throughout the past time.
Lieutenant Colonel Tang Ngoc Thach, Deputy Chief of Political Affairs of Naval Region 5, said: "Volunteer Saturday" is an activity regularly organized by the unit to propagate and educate officers, soldiers and people of all walks of life to raise awareness and responsibility for maintaining hygiene and protecting the environment; promoting the spirit of volunteering for the community, joining hands to build new rural areas.
Thanks to good propaganda work and practical, specific activities, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 have contributed significantly to reducing marine pollution.
