On the morning of June 20, receiving the 10th grade exam results with a score of 10 in math, English and 9.25 in literature, Vu Ngoc Bich (former student of Le Anh Xuan Secondary School, Tan Phu District) confided that she only thought she would get a high score but did not expect to become the new valedictorian of the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City. Bich is also one of the 27 candidates with the highest literature score in 2023 compared to more than 96,000 peers.

Vu Ngoc Bich has just become the valedictorian of the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City with a total score of 29.25.

Previously, in 2022, there were two candidates who achieved the same valedictorian result in the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City with 29 points: Tran Ho An Nhien (former student of Tran Dai Nghia High School, District 1) and Phan Nguyen Gia Bao (former student of Duc Tri Middle School, District 1). Thus, Bich had a total score 0.25 higher than her previous siblings.

Sharing about this achievement, the female student acknowledged that it came from her constant efforts, especially in the "re-memorization" method, learning to the point, firmly grasping it through many different forms. For example, in class, whenever she acquired new knowledge, Bich summarized it on a blank sheet of paper. At the end of each day and early the next morning, she would review and memorize what she had written before starting a new school day.

Or in math, after conquering a difficult problem or making a mistake, Bich always does it over and over again to remember the correct way to do it. Thanks to that, the female student can "jump numbers" quickly when encountering a similar type of problem again. "The most important thing is the quality, not the quantity of the problem. Don't solve it hastily without leaving any impression," the female student who wants to go to Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (District 5) advised.

In literature alone, Bich wrote "until the last minute" to fill 9 pages. Accordingly, in the social argumentation question, which was considered the most difficult, the female student first spent a few minutes reading and absorbing, then structured her essay with 3 main arguments related to practical experiences from her daily life. "A clear structure, no repetition of ideas, actively expressing emotions, and presenting opinions are the necessary factors to get a high score," Bich said.

The element of realism is also the "highlight" in the female student's literary essay, she shared. Specifically, after writing about love for the country through the poem Little Spring , Bich mentioned the reality of life with many examples of people who, despite being in difficult circumstances, still live beautifully and have the desire to contribute. "As the younger generation, we must continue those qualities with good actions, appropriate to our age," she said.

Inspired by Son Tung M-TP

Outside of school hours, Ngoc Bich is also passionate about "singing" to relieve stress, while nurturing her dream of becoming a singer. The female student revealed that she idolizes Son Tung M-TP and was "inspired" a lot by the male singer's famous statement, "If you want to sit in a position where no one else can sit, you have to endure feelings that no one else can endure." "That saying makes me constantly strive even though I have to study until midnight," Ngoc Bich confided.

In addition to idols, friends are also the motivation for the female valedictorian to study. According to Bich, all members of the class have their own strengths and interesting stories, "helping me learn many things". "The talent of my friends also makes me have to try hard to study to be balanced. We are also very united and often help each other", the female student said.

As Ngoc Bich's homeroom teacher in grade 9, Ms. Tran Thi Hau assessed that the female student's recent achievement as valedictorian was completely worthy of her constant efforts throughout the past school year. "Bich lives in harmony, happily, enthusiastically helping friends and supporting teachers," Ms. Hau said.

"Every day, the petite student makes progress and gradually becomes one of the top students in the class. When studying, she pays attention and if she has any problems, she will boldly discuss them. However, Bich does not put pressure on herself to pass exams but has the mindset of 'study hard, play hard'. Whenever the group has activities or movements, she actively participates," Ms. Hau added.

Mr. Vu Hung Cuong, Ngoc Bich's father, shared that instead of overprotecting their child, the family has created conditions for the student to be independent and self-reliant since grade 6, both in daily activities such as cycling to school and in the learning process. "Parents only guide and wholeheartedly support and accompany the child, but do not play a decisive role, even in the registration process," said Mr. Cuong.

After completing the 10th grade entrance exam, Bich said she will take advantage of this summer to learn more knowledge and new skills such as Korean or how to play the guitar. The female valedictorian who won third place in the district chess competition also plans to prepare her health and mind as comfortably as possible before starting her upcoming high school and university journey.
