Since early this afternoon (June 5, 2024), many hydropower plants in the Chay River basin have discharged floodwaters to ensure reservoir safety due to heavy rain.

According to the announcement from Phuc Long Hydropower Plant, it is expected that in the coming time, the water flow to Phuc Long Hydropower Reservoir will reach 350 - 550m3 /s. Therefore, to ensure the safety of the dam, the project and the safety of the downstream area of the hydropower dam, Phuc Long Hydropower Joint Stock Company plans to release floodwater from Phuc Long Hydropower Reservoir from 3:15 p.m. on June 5, 2024 with a total discharge flow to the downstream from 350 - 550 m3 /s and may increase or decrease according to reality (including discharge through power generation and discharge through spillways).
Previously, Vinh Ha Hydropower Plant also issued a notice from 2:15 p.m. on June 5 to release floodwater from Vinh Ha Hydropower Reservoir with a total discharge flow downstream of 418 m3 /s.
Nam Luc Hydropower Plant announced at 2:00 p.m. that the total discharge to downstream was 450 m3 /s.
Nam Khanh Hydropower Plant announced at 2:00 p.m. that the total discharge to downstream was 94.85 m3 /s.
Nam Phang Hydropower Plant announced at 14:10 that the total discharge to downstream was 167.88 m3 /s.
Coc Dam Hydropower Plant announced that at 2:15 p.m., the total discharge to the downstream was 154,309 m3 /s.
Nam Phang B Hydropower Plant announced at 14:30 that the total discharge to downstream was 141.4 m³/s.
The notification of flood discharge from hydroelectric reservoirs is a mandatory procedure during the operation of reservoirs to ensure safety for the project and avoid affecting downstream areas. All hydroelectric projects must strictly comply with reservoir operation procedures and plans for dam and reservoir protection; natural disaster response; emergency response for projects and downstream areas of dams approved by competent authorities and comply with the methods and dispatching orders of the power system dispatching authority with control authority.
