Comrades: Lieutenant General Tran Vo Dung - Political Commissar of Military Region 4 and Major General Doan Xuan Bo - Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper co-chaired the workshop.
The workshop was attended by leaders of provinces in the North Central region; scientists from the Central Theoretical Council, the Vietnam Institute of Defense Strategy and History; leaders of military branches; and heroes of the people's armed forces.
Attending the workshop, on behalf of Nghe An province, there was comrade Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province.
Military Region 4 has a particularly important geographical, political and military position; it is a strategic area in the resistance war against the US to save the country. Stretching from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue, Military Region 4 is both the front line of the great rear of the North and the direct rear of the front line of the South... During the years of resistance, the enemy clearly understood the role of Military Region 4, so they focused on fierce attacks, especially on key traffic points, warehouses, ports and production facilities.
During the resistance war against the US to save the country, under the leadership of the Party, directly by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, the army and people of Military Region 4 promoted revolutionary traditions, persistently held their ground, fought, produced, and provided maximum support to the frontline.
The entire military region mobilized millions of tons of food, hundreds of thousands of youth volunteers and frontline laborers; tens of thousands of outstanding children went to fight, and many children of the homeland heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.
The scientific conference "Military Region 4 - Resilient Frontline, Solid Rear" was held to review the heroic tradition of the army and people of Military Region 4 in the cause of resistance against the US, national liberation, and national reunification; draw valuable lessons and apply them in the current cause of national construction and defense.
The workshop received more than 50 presentations from leaders of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; leaders of localities of Military Region 4; generals, scientists, researchers, leaders of agencies, units, academies, and schools inside and outside the Army.
The presentations at the Workshop clarified and deepened the position and role of Military Region 4 in the resistance war against the US to save the country; the role of the army and people of Military Region 4 in the resistance war, especially in major campaigns, typical battles, heroic units, brave fighting examples; people's war, revolutionary heroism were highly promoted in Military Region 4.
Thereby, drawing lessons and applying them in the current period in organizing forces, commanding operations, and building armed forces in modern warfare conditions. Promoting the spirit of solidarity between the army and the people, continuing to build a national defense posture, and building defense zones in Military Region 4 in the new situation.
