Preparing to get water for the second phase to serve the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring rice crop, in the Northern Midlands and Delta regions

To ensure water for planting and storage for irrigation, the Department of Irrigation ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ) has just issued telegram No. 02/CD-TL-VHTT dated February 4 on Preparing to take water for the second phase to serve the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring rice planting in the Midlands and Northern Delta regions.

Accordingly, the second phase of water intake will be implemented according to the Notice of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development No. 9193/TB-BNN-TL dated December 4, 2024, starting from 0:00 on February 8 to 24:00 on February 14, 2025 (a total of 7 days). Hydropower plants will operate at maximum power generation capacity about 2-3 days in advance, the flow will be maintained at a high level (the average water level is expected to reach about 1.7-1.9 m at the Hanoi Hydrological Station), so the irrigation works will have favorable conditions to take water. Depending on the actual water intake progress, the water intake time can be shortened to save water from hydropower reservoirs.

To make water collection work more effective, the Director of the Department of Irrigation requests the Directors of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces and cities, and enterprises exploiting irrigation works to direct the implementation of the following contents: Maximize the operation of irrigation works to complete the supply of enough water for 100% of the cultivated area, increase maximum water storage in the system of canals, lagoons, ponds, and low-lying areas for irrigation. Urgently mobilize and guide people to carry out early land preparation and planting to retain water in the fields, organize the reinforcement of the banks and fields, and ensure against water loss for areas that have been supplied with enough water.

Actively monitor online information on water levels downstream of the Red River system to manage water intake in accordance with reality and update the watered area daily before 3 p.m. on the information page: https://thuyloivn.gov.vn/dieu-hanh-xa-nuoc. Report daily water intake results and quickly summarize immediately after the end of the 2nd water intake; promptly reflect difficulties, problems, proposals and recommendations to the standing unit of the Department of Irrigation for synthesis and reporting to the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
