The joint peacekeeping exercise "Immortal Brothers 2023" with the participation of forces from five Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states has begun in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defense said in a statement on October 9.
“Today, in the Kyrgyz Republic, at the Edelweiss Test Site, the opening ceremony of the joint exercise Immortal Brothers 2023 with CSTO peacekeepers took place.
The main objective of the exercise is to improve the practical skills of the peacekeeping force command and staff, and to enhance coordination between military units while performing peacekeeping tasks in the Central Asian collective security area.
“During the exercise in the highland terrain, exercises will be carried out aimed at implementing post-conflict settlement in crisis zones, including conducting peacekeeping operations with the forces and equipment available in the CSTO collective security system and providing humanitarian aid,” the press release on the event said.
The exercise involved about 1,500 peacekeepers from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, along with combat groups from the CSTO Headquarters and Secretariat, and more than 200 units of special automotive and armored vehicles, military transport, military and attack aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles and naval vessels.
