The Brazilian government and Alphabet Inc.'s Google have signed an agreement to collaborate on a project to remove racist content from Google's platforms and social networks in the South American country.

The Brazilian government will also discuss with several other tech companies, such as Meta, ways to collaborate to combat racism and hate speech on the internet.

Brazil's Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, and Google's Vice President for Emerging Markets, Doron Avni, pledged to invest 1 million reais (about $200,000) in a project to support and train Afro-Brazilian programmers in moderating and preventing racist content and hate speech on social media and platforms like YouTube.
