The Brazilian government is working to invest in sustainable forest development in the Amazon region, as well as promote the use of renewable energy in the South American country, thereby realizing its commitment to eliminate deforestation by 2030.
At the recent launching ceremony of the program "Alliance with localities to reduce deforestation and forest fires in the Amazon", Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that the government of this country will invest 730 million reals (about 146 million USD) for sustainable development projects, the fight against deforestation and forest fires in 70 localities in the Amazon region.
Deforestation data collected from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) monitoring system will be used as a basis for calculating the payment method for localities. According to the Brazilian government, at least 30,000 households are expected to benefit from payments for environmental services and other technical assistance activities.
