On March 29, as part of his state visit to Vietnam, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended and delivered a speech at the Vietnam-Brazil Business Forum in Hanoi. Also attending and welcoming him to Vietnam was Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Become a gateway for each other's goods
At the event, the business communities of the two countries were introduced to the potential, strengths and investment cooperation desires of each side. Delegates also proposed solutions to promote cooperation between the two countries, especially in areas such as aviation, mechanics, agriculture, minerals, etc.
Although Vietnam and Brazil are geographically far apart, according to Brazilian President Lula da Silva, the two countries are very close and share many common values.
He cited that Vietnam has a market of more than 100 million people, while Brazil has 196 million people. Both countries have diverse and unique cultures, especially their love for football. In addition, Vietnam and Brazil are also the two largest coffee producers and exporters in the world.

The Brazilian leader affirmed that with much room and good relations, the two-way trade turnover of only 8 billion USD is still a modest figure. Therefore, both sides need to do more, taking advantage of the signed agreements and deals.
He gave an example of Vietnam allowing the import of beef from Brazil. With the green light from Vietnam, Brazil will immediately invest in beef processing plants to penetrate the ASEAN market through Vietnam.
In the opposite direction, Brazil is ready to be the gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR) bloc of which it is a member. Currently, this bloc of four countries is the world's fifth largest economy.
Introducing the cooperation potentials that Brazil has strengths in such as aviation, biofuel, sports, agriculture, etc., President Lula da Silva suggested that businesses of the two countries, especially private enterprises, connect with each other and promote investment cooperation activities.
In particular, he suggested that the two sides study the establishment of joint funds to promote investment and develop science and technology, creating favorable conditions and trust for businesses of the two countries to cooperate and invest.
Cooperate in areas of strength to become stronger
For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed Vietnam's consistent stance of supporting an independent, strong, powerful Brazil with an increasingly important role in the region and the world.
Vietnam is ready to participate in Brazilian initiatives that contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the world, especially the anti-poverty initiative.
The Head of Government also proposed a number of directions for businesses of both sides to cooperate, contributing to bringing trade commensurate with the strategic partnership.
For example, in areas where both sides have strengths, they can cooperate, such as researching the establishment of coffee trading floors. Brazil also has strengths in minerals, while Vietnam is in need of strong development of the metallurgical industry.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated Brazil's investment in a beef processing plant immediately after Vietnam opened its market for this product, clearly demonstrating the spirit of "what you say is what you do, what you commit to, you must fulfill".
Football, a sport that both countries have a great passion for, was also mentioned by the head of the Vietnamese Government.
He said that there are currently many Brazilian players playing in Vietnam, some of whom have been naturalized and have made important contributions to helping Vietnam win the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
