On March 28, 1959, at the founding ceremony of the force, officers and soldiers of the Border Guard were honored to welcome President Ho Chi Minh to attend. He instructed: "Solidarity, vigilance; integrity, thrift; Complete tasks; Overcome difficulties; Courage in front of the enemy; Forgetting oneself for the country; Loyalty to the Party; Devotion to the people". This was an important event, marking the birth of the Border Guard - the armed force specializing in protecting the national border; affirming the growth and development of the people's armed forces in the cause of strengthening national defense and protecting the Fatherland. To better fulfill its assigned tasks, the Border Guard has advised the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and local Party committees and authorities, mobilizing the combined strength and all resources for the task of protecting the national border and building a strong border. From the effective practice of the mass movement participating in building and protecting the border, on February 22, 1989, the Council of Ministers (now the Government) issued Decision No. 16/QD-HDBT on organizing "Border Guard Day" nationwide, starting from March 3, 1989.
Over the 65th anniversary of the Vietnam Border Guard's Traditional Day and the 35th anniversary of the People's Border Guard Day, officers and soldiers have always been deeply aware of their core and specialized role in the cause of building the Border Guard; working day and night to build a mass movement to protect sovereignty and border security, persistently staying close to the people, staying close to the area, and being attached to the people of all ethnic groups. Border Guard units have actively and proactively advised and coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to effectively implement many socio-economic development programs associated with national defense and security in border areas, promoting the movement of the people to protect the Border Guard to develop more and more deeply, creating a pincer for the Border Guard posture associated with the national defense posture and people's security to become increasingly solid.
Along with the border guards nationwide, after the re-establishment of the province (April 1, 1992), the provincial Border Guard officially came into operation, under the leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee and the Party Committee - Border Guard Command, with the task of protecting the sovereignty of maritime security and safety with a length of 105km, internal waters of about 12,000km2, territorial waters of about 18,000km2, within the administrative area of 15 communes, wards and towns in 5 districts and cities: Thuan Bac, Ninh Hai, Ninh Phuoc, Thuan Nam and Phan Rang-Thap Cham.
On the first day of taking over the facilities to set up the Command Headquarters, the Provincial Border Guard faced many difficulties; the working house was a temporary house of the Phan Rang town vocational training collective, working equipment was lacking, 100% of the border posts and squadrons had not been built, 50% did not have national grid electricity; Vinh Hai and Phuoc Dinh posts had difficulty traveling; the organization and staffing did not meet the requirements for performing the tasks... However, with will, determination and promoting the heroic revolutionary tradition, the officers and soldiers of the Provincial Border Guard were united, overcame difficulties and challenges, focused on building and consolidating a comprehensively strong force, well performing the core and specialized role in protecting the sovereignty of maritime security and safety, promoting the combined strength of the entire political system, building a strong Border Guard posture, firmly protecting the territorial sovereignty and security of the province's seas in all situations, always being a reliable force of the Party Committee, government and people of the province.
In particular, since the Border Guard Ordinance, the National Border Law, and the Vietnam Border Guard Law were issued, clearly defining the functions and tasks of the Border Guard force as a specialized, core force in protecting national sovereignty and security, the provincial Border Guard has made new developments, effectively serving the cause of innovation, industrialization and modernization of the country. In recent years, the political security, order and social safety of the province in the maritime border area have been maintained, contributing significantly to the sustainable development of the province's economy, culture and society. The provincial Border Guard has synchronously deployed border protection measures, directly and effectively combated activities that take advantage of ethnicity and religion to sabotage the Party, State and government; detected, arrested and handled many cases related to crimes of human trafficking, buying, selling, storing and using explosives, effectively combating and preventing commercial fraud; Coordinate with forces to effectively combat criminal offenses, drugs, and social evils in coastal border areas; effectively implement the coordination program with departments, branches, and sectors in participating in economic, cultural, and social development in border areas.

The process of building, fighting and growing up of the provincial Border Guard force has always received attention and support from Party committees at all levels, local authorities, people and forces in the province, thereby successfully completing the task of managing and protecting the sovereignty and security of the province's sea areas. In order to firmly protect the territorial sovereignty and national security and defense in the new situation, promoting the tradition of 65 years of building, fighting and growing up, the provincial Border Guard force will focus on performing well a number of key tasks, namely: Thoroughly grasping the task of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, performing well the advisory function for the Party Committee, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the Provincial People's Council and People's Committee on border work and building the provincial Border Guard; closely coordinating with forces to promptly resolve situations occurring in the sea border area; firmly protecting the territorial sovereignty and national security and defense. Building a strong and comprehensive provincial Border Guard, a "Typical model", with increasingly high overall quality and combat readiness, capable of completing all assigned tasks. Improving the leadership capacity and combat strength of Party organizations in the provincial Border Guard, ensuring sufficient leadership to complete tasks in the new period. Promoting the implementation of key and urgent tasks of the locality, coordinating relevant forces to participate in economic, cultural and social development associated with strengthening national defense and security on the province's maritime border. Doing a good job of emulation and rewarding collectives and individuals with contributions to the cause of building and protecting territorial sovereignty, national security and defense and building a strong Border Guard.
