Long An province is located in the Southwest region with a land border of nearly 135 km, adjacent to the two provinces of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng (Kingdom of Cambodia). The border area of ​​the province includes 20 communes in 6 districts and towns, with nearly 30,000 households and over 100,000 people of many different ethnicities and religions.

This is an area with many difficulties, although the socio-economic infrastructure has been invested, it still does not meet the needs of economic and social development; the poverty rate in the border area is still high compared to the general level, the educational level of the people is uneven; the activities of all kinds of crimes, especially drug crimes, smuggling, trade fraud, illegal entry and exit activities are still complicated, with many sophisticated tricks that are difficult to detect;.... These characteristics have directly affected the management and protection of territorial sovereignty and national border security of the Border Guard of Long An province.

Over the years, upholding the sense of responsibility, officers and soldiers of the Long An Provincial Border Guard have always proactively grasped all aspects of the internal and external border situation; managed and protected the safety of the border system, border markers and border works; conducted patrols and ambushes to prevent and combat all kinds of crimes and illegal entry and exit. Closely following the locality, every year, the Party Committee and Command of the Long An Provincial Border Guard regularly lead and direct agencies and units to thoroughly grasp and deploy, strictly implement combat readiness work; maintain the organization of unilateral and bilateral patrols to protect the safety of the border and border markers.

In particular, the Border Guard force of Long An province has effectively deployed the task of fighting and preventing all kinds of crimes. In 2024 alone, units under the Border Guard Command of Long An province have presided over and coordinated the successful fight against 10 special projects and 12 professional plans. Thereby, 53 cases/66 subjects were discovered and arrested; the seized exhibits and means included 32 heroin cakes, 104.15 kg of drugs, 47,680 packs of cigarettes, 4.5 tons of firecrackers, 29 buffaloes, 2 taels of gold, 3.5 tons of sugar, 3 guns, 21 bullets, 52 million VND, 23 cars, 11 motorbikes, 1 composite boat, with the total value of seized exhibits estimated at about 35 billion VND. At the same time, the functional forces of the two provinces of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng (Kingdom of Cambodia) coordinated to detect and arrest 39 cases/161 subjects, seizing more than 100 kg of drugs, 8 million USD, 7 guns and 54 bullets.

With the comprehensive completion of border work, by the end of 2024, the Long An Provincial Border Guard Command was honored to receive the Third Class Feat of Arms Medal for its outstanding achievements in the fight against illegal trading and transportation of firecrackers to maintain political security, social order and safety, contributing to the construction of socialism and national defense.

Colonel Dam Quang Ngoat, Commander of the Long An Provincial Border Guard Command and Lieutenant Colonel Mai Hong Thanh, Head of the Drug and Crime Prevention Department (Long An Provincial Border Guard Command) received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister for their outstanding achievements in combating and preventing the illegal trading and transportation of illegal fireworks, contributing to maintaining political security and social order and safety.

'Support' of ethnic minorities in border areas

Taking to heart President Ho Chi Minh's teaching, "with skillful mass mobilization, everything will be successful", to strengthen the overall strength and protect national border sovereignty, the Party Committee and Border Guard Command of Long An province have focused on leading and directing border posts to actively participate with local Party committees and authorities to help people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty and build the economy.

Accordingly, many models and programs have been deployed and implemented with practical results; recognized and highly appreciated by Party committees, authorities and ethnic minorities in border areas. Typical models include: "One address per week"; "Charity rice jar"; "Love porridge"; "Support and sponsor the elderly"; "Helping children go to school"; "Adopted children of Border Guard stations":... Thereby, contributing to the development of economy, culture, society, and strengthening the political system in the local border area.

According to statistics, in the period of 2019-2024, the "green uniform" soldiers in Long An coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, departments, branches, organizations, etc. to mobilize resources to build and donate 255 solidarity houses to households in the border area with difficult housing circumstances, worth nearly 15 billion VND (of which, the Border Guard mobilized to build and donate 58 houses, 16 gratitude houses worth more than 1 billion VND, 12 comrade houses worth 720 million VND; visited and gave gifts to policy families, families with revolutionary contributions, poor households in the border area during holidays and Tet, worth nearly 5 billion VND). The Border Guard force of Long An province also coordinated to organize 2,150 propaganda sessions on the Party's policies and the State's laws and policies, attracting over 54,600 attendees.
