On September 18, doctors from the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Quang Ngai Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, performed an emergency esophagogastric endoscopy, using anesthesia, and successfully removed a foreign object from a 3-year-old patient (residing in Binh Tan Phu commune, Binh Son district).
According to the child's mother, on the evening of September 15, the child took his father's headlamp to play with. The next morning (September 16), the child told his mother that he had swallowed his father's battery and asked her how to get it out. The family was extremely worried and took him to the hospital for examination. The doctors suspected that there was a screw in the child's stomach.
Immediately afterwards, the patient was transferred to the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation to perform a procedure to remove the foreign body. After 30 minutes, the endoscopy team successfully removed the metal foreign body, identified as a 4cm long screw, from the patient's stomach.
Specialist Doctor Nguyen Thi My Le, Head of the Gastroenterology Department, recommends that if parents have time, they should play with their children or observe them while they are playing. Avoid letting children come into contact with or play with sharp objects, coins, nails, screws, etc. If you discover that your child has swallowed a foreign object, take them to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
This year, the Pediatric Gastroenterology Department has removed foreign objects from children's stomachs 5 times.
