Closing of the 11th AP Conference, adoption of the Hanoi Action Plan

On the afternoon of November 23, in Hanoi, the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (AP-11) closed. The conference adopted the Hanoi - 2023 Action Plan with actions to benefit vulnerable people in each country and region.

At the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent with the theme “Asia-Pacific: Disaster Preparedness”, delegates discussed in 5 thematic workshops to identify challenges and opportunities, express concerns about equipping and protecting vulnerable populations; share practical experiences and propose new, more appropriate solutions and approaches in humanitarian work.

In her closing remarks at the Conference, Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said that our mission is to use the knowledge and experience gained with new and creative thinking, and partnerships from this conference, to jointly take responsibility for turning the Hanoi Action Plan - 2023 into useful actions that benefit vulnerable people in our respective countries and regions.

"We continue to protect, support, and empower those in need to become stronger. We continue to strengthen partnerships and build the capacity of each national association to be confident and self-reliant in carrying out humanitarian missions in the digital and green age.

As we leave this Conference, please join us in bringing with you the spirit of cooperation, commitment to humanitarian action and determination to create effective change for our National Societies and the humanitarian movement regionally and globally. The challenges we face are not small, but by acting together we have the power to create positive change that will contribute to building a more inclusive and resilient Asia-Pacific region,” the President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society emphasized.

Vice President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Maha Barjas Hamoud Al Barjas said that despite the differences in skin color, this Conference demonstrated the solidarity of nations. It is a platform for nations to streamline their efforts, identify priorities and jointly address common challenges.

“Despite the challenges we face, regardless of politics, funding issues and shrinking humanitarian space, vulnerable communities rely on the Red Cross network to help them in the best and most appropriate way,” said Maha Barjas Hamoud Al Barjas.

The AP-11 conference took place from November 20-23 in Hanoi, with many exciting activities attended by hundreds of delegates, including more than 300 international delegates. The conference's main activities included general and plenary seminars and specialized seminars on disaster response.

The highlight of the AP-11 Conference is the Asia-Pacific International Red Cross and Red Crescent Youth Forum with the theme “Enhancing Resilience - Inspiring Youth Leadership to Promote Innovation in Disaster Preparedness”.

Within the framework of the conference, there is also the "Humanitarian Power" program in 2023, to honor domestic and foreign partners who have made many contributions to humanitarian activities as well as Red Cross work.

On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society also held bilateral meetings with leaders of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and a number of national societies, and signed cooperation agreements with a number of national societies.
