Speaking at the training session, Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the largest humanitarian network in the world, with 192 member national Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies.

The International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for Asia and the Pacific is held every four years and is an important event in the Asia and the Pacific region, with the participation of all National Societies in the Asia and the Pacific region and the Middle East and North Africa region.

The 11th Conference in 2023, the Vietnam Red Cross Society is honored to host, with the participation of about 350 international delegates. The Conference is an opportunity to introduce and promote the achievements, culture, country and people of Vietnam and is a favorable occasion to learn from experiences, expand relationships, mobilize resources for the country's humanitarian and social security goals, demonstrating responsibility for the regional and global humanitarian movement.

"Today's training session is important to prepare the entire staff of the Central Committee and volunteers to be ready to participate in serving the AP-11 Conference. In particular, the volunteer team plays an important role in representing the host country, so they must create a good impression on the delegates and must comply with the rules of dress, manners, attitude and grasp the information related to the conference set forth by the Organizing Committee," Ms. Hoa emphasized.

At the training session, Mr. La Viet Ha, Deputy Director of the State Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, imparted basic knowledge about necessary reception work as well as skills and handling of situations arising in the service work of the Conference; representatives of the leaders of the Central Committee of the Association exchanged basic information about the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, about the service tasks and specific work for each officer and volunteer participating in the AP-11 Conference, from reception at the airport, hotel, to the Conference venues and activities on the sidelines of the Conference. Officers and volunteers serving the Conference were also trained in basic first aid skills to be able to support the medical care force for delegates attending the Conference.

With a large-scale and international conference like the AP-11 Conference, in addition to the Central Association's staff, mobilizing volunteers to serve the Conference is an important step in logistics. Volunteers are divided into groups to serve and take care of domestic and international delegations and guests during their stay in Vietnam and participate in other reception and reception activities.

At the request for support from the Vietnam Red Cross, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee selected and nominated 30 volunteers to serve the AP-11 Conference according to the following criteria: Good English communication skills, having participated in and having experience serving international delegations attending the Conference in Vietnam, having background knowledge of Vietnamese culture and history, having been trained in reception and diplomatic skills according to international standards, and good appearance.

The selected volunteers all graduated from foreign languages and diplomacy majors from prestigious universities/institutes such as the Diplomatic Academy, Hanoi University of Foreign Languages, Foreign Trade University, National University, British University Vietnam... and fully met the above criteria.
