Temporarily detain female director of MSB Thanh Xuan Bank

Regarding the case of a customer suddenly losing 58 billion at MSB (Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank), at the press conference on the socio-economic situation in the first quarter of 2024 held on the afternoon of March 28 by the Hanoi People's Committee, the leader of the Hanoi Police Department provided information about the incident.

Accordingly, Major General Nguyen Thanh Tung - Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police said that on October 10, 2023, the Investigation Security Agency, Hanoi City Police received a report from MSB Bank about the discovery of the above bank employee showing signs of fraud and property appropriation.

The above news report accused Ms. Bui Thi Hoai Anh (born in 1984, residing at apartment building 390 Bo De, Long Bien) - director of MSB bank Thanh Xuan branch - of having signs of fraud and appropriation of customers' assets with the amount of 165 billion VND.

Based on the investigation results on October 18, 2023, the Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police said that the Investigation Agency has initiated a case and temporarily detained Ms. Bui Thi Hoai Anh. Initially, it was determined that Ms. Anh had defrauded and appropriated the assets of 8 victims with the amount of 338 billion VND.

"Currently, the police have applied measures to recover assets to return to the victims. Initially, it was determined that there were no accomplices and the police are continuing to determine," said Major General Nguyen Thanh Tung.

Previously, Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MSB) said that recently, some media and social networks have spread information related to customers reporting that money was lost in accounts opened at a branch.

Regarding this issue, MSB informed that during the process of checking operations and periodically evaluating staff at branches, this bank discovered unusual signs related to a number of staff and employees with a group of customers (who had close relationships with each other before joining MSB).

MSB has proactively provided information to authorities for clarification.

Informing the press, Ms. NTL (Hanoi) said that more than 58 billion VND in an account opened at MSB Bank suddenly disappeared.

"For more than 2 years after depositing money, I still deposit and withdraw money normally. But in early October 2023, I was invited by the Hanoi City Police Department to work and informed that the money I deposited in MSB Bank was no longer available. Up to this point, my total amount is up to more than 58 billion VND," said Ms. NTL.

Ms. NTL also confirmed that she did not withdraw any money, did not authorize anyone, and did not sign any documents.

For more than half a year, Ms. L. said she had repeatedly gone to MSB Bank to complain and request the return of more than 58 billion VND deposited at this bank. However, this bank refused to explain the reason for the loss of money and has not paid her, saying that it is waiting for the conclusion of the investigation agency .
