This morning (December 7), Can Tho City Police prosecuted and temporarily detained Tran Cao Long (36 years old, residing in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) to investigate the act of "Slander".

According to the initial investigation, the Criminal Police Department of Can Tho City Police received a report of a case with signs of a slanderous crime. The subject committed the act by sending fabricated messages, spreading false information, slander, and insulting the honor and dignity of others.
In addition, from March to August this year, many leaders of agencies, departments, and branches in Can Tho City continuously received text messages denouncing a number of officials from the Development Investment Fund, the Department of Construction, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the City Police. These text messages contained fabricated and slanderous content about violations of the law and corruption.
Major General Nguyen Van Thuan - Director of Can Tho City Police - directly directed the Criminal Police Department to verify and clarify the case. Through professional measures, the police identified Tran Cao Long as the person who directly sent the text messages and spread the above information.

According to the police, the suspect Long works as an online seller. Initially, Long admitted his violations. The police searched Long's residence at City Land apartment building, Phan Van Tri street, ward 10, Go Vap district, thereby seizing many documents and evidence related to the case.
Authorities are expanding the investigation and handling related subjects according to the law.
