With the active participation of all levels, sectors, localities, and enterprises, environmental protection work at historical and cultural relics and tourist attractions in the province has had many positive changes. From there, it has contributed to creating a green, clean, and beautiful landscape space, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and explore.
Lam Kinh Historical Relic Site (Tho Xuan) focuses on environmental protection, attracting tourists to visit.
Thanh Hoa has 1,535 historical - cultural relics and scenic spots that have been ranked and inventoried for protection. In recent years, spiritual tourism has become a "trend" chosen by many domestic and foreign tourists. However, the strong development of spiritual tourism also puts great pressure on the natural environment in general and the environment at relic sites and scenic spots in particular. Based on that reality, localities in the province, especially localities with relic sites and scenic spots of great value in tourism development, have focused on environmental protection and natural landscapes.
Regarding this issue, Head of the Management Board of Lam Kinh Historical Relic Site (Tho Xuan), Nguyen Xuan Toan said: Recently, a large number of tourists have come to visit and offer incense at Lam Kinh Historical Relic Site, so the unit always focuses on environmental protection work to keep the relic site green - clean - beautiful. Accordingly, the unit has promoted propaganda work on environmental protection in tourism activities, organizing festivals, protecting and promoting the value of the relic site to tourists and people living around the area through a system of banners, slogans, and loudspeakers. Trash bins are arranged and installed around the roads and paths in the relic site and there are signs instructing visitors to throw garbage in the right place, not to litter indiscriminately into the environment. In addition, the relic site has also established an environmental sanitation team to daily trim and care for trees, collect and transport garbage around the relic site to the garbage collection site. The relic site management board also strengthens coordination with local authorities in propagating, educating, and mobilizing people around the relic site to comply with environmental protection regulations...
In localities with potential for natural resources such as Ba Thuoc, Quan Hoa, Thuong Xuan...; promoting investment in tourism development is one of the top priorities. Therefore, environmental protection and natural landscape protection are always of interest to localities. Typically, Ba Thuoc district has implemented many measures to ensure environmental sanitation in tourism development. In particular, the district has developed and promulgated environmental protection regulations in tourist areas and spots; arranged trash bins in convenient places, with signs guiding waste classification; arranged forces to collect, classify and treat waste according to regulations. To raise awareness of people and businesses in environmental protection, the district has actively organized training and coaching on environmental protection-related contents, especially in places with tourist areas and spots. Coordinated with associations, unions and people at the grassroots level to maintain and launch environmental protection movements. Along with that, the district also strengthened inspection work, ensuring safety in tourism activities; Supervise and strictly handle violations by organizations and individuals in complying with the law on tourism business, environmental protection, food safety; improve the quality and professionalism in serving tourists... Thanks to that, up to now, most tourism service establishments in the district have well implemented regulations on environmental protection, especially the collection and treatment of solid waste; 100% of accommodation establishments and food businesses are committed to ensuring food hygiene and safety.
In recent years, Thanh Hoa has welcomed a large number of tourists to visit and explore. Therefore, in order to build the image of Thanh Hoa tourism as civilized, friendly and safe in the hearts of tourists, all levels, sectors and localities in the province have focused on environmental protection. From 2021 to present, the province has supported 7.5 billion VND from the Tourism Development Program for localities to build 25 standard public toilets (300 million VND/house) to serve tourists at relics and scenic spots, bringing the total number of toilets supported for construction in the province to 92 toilet areas...
Up to now, most tourism investment projects have had environmental protection dossiers approved by competent authorities and integrated climate change response content, to ensure sustainable development of enterprises and customer benefits. Some major tourist areas and destinations in the province have invested in centralized wastewater treatment facilities. Most tourist areas and destinations in the province are equipped with trash bins and signs to raise tourists' awareness of environmental protection.
However, environmental protection work for tourism activities is still limited and difficult. Environmental pollution in some craft villages has affected the promotion of craft village values for tourism development. Waste collection in mountainous districts and some coastal localities is not thorough, and there is still waste accumulated along the beach and some tourist attractions, causing loss of aesthetics. The treatment of domestic waste by advanced technology is still slow, mainly by landfill (accounting for nearly 70%). Many landfills are overloaded and degraded, causing environmental pollution.
Therefore, to create positive changes in preserving environmental hygiene and landscapes in tourist areas and spots, becoming an important foundation for Thanh Hoa tourism to develop sustainably in the future, it is necessary to have more synchronous participation of all levels, sectors and localities in the province.
