Statistics from the Ministry of Information and Communications show that by the end of 2022, Vietnam will have over 800 press agencies and more than 40,000 employees working in press agencies nationwide, covering all types of modern multimedia communications, creating a widespread information network in all regions.
In the context of international integration and the development of science and technology, the Vietnamese press is constantly innovating and creating, doing a good job of propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to the people in a quick, timely and attractive manner, contributing to orienting public opinion, consolidating trust, effectively refuting false information and hostile arguments of reactionary forces at home and abroad, firmly protecting the Party's ideological foundation.
Currently, a number of press agencies have done a very good job of propagating and fighting to protect the Party's ideological foundation, such as: Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Vietnam Television (VTV), Voice of Vietnam (VOV), Nhan Dan Newspaper, People's Army Newspaper, People's Police Newspaper, Communist Magazine, Communist Party Electronic Newspaper, Government Electronic Newspaper... A number of press agencies have built and formed specialized pages on Party building, launched press awards on Party building, opening up great opportunities for journalists, collaborators and the masses to actively participate in writing articles, creating useful press works for society, contributing significantly to the work of building and protecting the Party's ideological foundation in the new situation.
However, with the strong development of the internet, social networks, digital media, taking advantage of the advantages of social networks and digital media, such as: fast speed of posting, sharing, spreading information, large capacity, multi-dimensional, not limited by space, time... hostile forces, political opportunists, discontented elements, reactionary organizations are stepping up propaganda activities with distorted, fabricated arguments, bad, toxic, untrue information... to oppose our Party and State, destroy the Party's ideological foundation, disrupt information, and destabilize the political situation.
Affirming the important role of the press in the work of building and protecting the Party, many documents and resolutions of the Communist Party of Vietnam also specifically emphasize the task of the press is to protect and develop Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought, protect the Party's viewpoints and guidelines, actively fight, contribute to preventing and gradually repelling corruption, waste, bureaucracy, negatives and social evils; refute false, reactionary and hostile information and viewpoints, firmly protect the Party's ideological battlefield. The 13th National Congress of the Party also continued to emphasize one of the important tasks of the press in the new situation: Resolutely fight and eliminate toxic, distorted, reactionary products and information that negatively affect political and social stability, good customs and traditions, etc.
At the 2023 National Press Conference, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized: The Vietnamese revolutionary press is a sharp ideological weapon of the Party and State, always closely accompanying the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. In recent years, press agencies and journalists nationwide have regularly promoted their political mission and responsibility, closely following the Party's orientation, grasping reality, and performing well their assigned tasks, including spending a lot of time widely propagating the research and dissemination of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Party's resolutions and political conclusions, and the State's policies and laws into life. The press has actively, proactively, and effectively reflected objectively and truthfully, making an important contribution to orienting public opinion, creating consensus in society, and strengthening people's trust in the leadership of the Party and State; Information and propaganda on socio-economic recovery and development, achievements in foreign affairs, propaganda on Party building, preventing corruption, waste, negativity, protecting the Party's ideological foundation, fighting against hostile and erroneous viewpoints...
Proactive, timely and creative

Affirming the role of the press in protecting the Party's ideological foundation, Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, emphasized: In the work of protecting the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against distorted and reactionary arguments, the press is one of the most important, effective and efficient tools to participate in this struggle.
Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi said that, in reality, the press has participated very actively in the struggle to protect the Party's ideological foundation, which has been affirmed by the Party and State leaders in many different forums and documents. However, in order to do better and meet the requirements set forth by the Party and State, press agencies need to strengthen and pay more attention to this task.
According to Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi, in the coming time, press agencies need to focus resources, time and intelligence to build and develop this content, contributing to promoting propaganda work to protect the ideological foundation of the Party and State.
By demonstrating the early, pre-emptive and direct struggle against the plots, tricks and wrong views of hostile forces, press agencies have built columns and pages to help people grasp the basic content of the Party's ideological foundation, promptly identify the wrong views of hostile forces to refute, creating great social consensus.
According to Journalist Nguyen Tri Thuc (Communist Magazine): In the context of the current development of social networks, bad and toxic information is exploding, difficult to distinguish between true and false, difficult to verify... has affected all fields and professions. The press not only promptly propagates on traditional forms or methods of journalism, but also needs to proactively, promptly and appropriately propagate on social media platforms, build columns, methods and measures to approach the subjects in a suitable, creative, drastic, timely and accurate manner.
Sharing about the difficulties of the press in the work of propagating and protecting the Party's ideological foundation today, Journalist Nguyen Tri Thuc said that this is a difficult, dry, and strict topic, requiring writers to have a good understanding and grasp of the Party and State's policies and guidelines, so there are still few people who can write deeply, explain the nature thoroughly, and fight effectively. In addition, the team of writers on this topic in some press agencies is not really elite, many press agencies are still struggling to build a team of reporters, collaborators, and editors on this topic.
To promote the role of the press in the propaganda work to protect the Party's ideological foundation, Journalist Nguyen Tri Thuc said: each journalist needs to improve revolutionary ethics, journalistic ethics, grasp the content and spirit of Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW of the Politburo, always have self-awareness and responsibility not only in propaganda, in identifying and criticizing bad and toxic information on social networks, in the press, but also on personal websites...
Continuing to maintain and actively respond to the writing contest "Protecting the Party's ideological foundation" is one of the important and effective solutions for the press to increasingly make useful contributions to the propaganda to protect the Party's ideological foundation in the current period.
