Similarly, on Shopee and Lazada, cheap mooncakes and promotions are everywhere. 200 gram mooncakes are priced at 15,000-21,000 VND each, a 6-16% discount. For 350 gram cakes, a box of 4 is 360,000 VND, a 10% discount.

According to the Mooncake Market Report by Metric - a data platform
E-commerce - There are more than 406 mooncake sellers on these 3 e-commerce platforms. Of which, Shoppe and Tiki sell the most with more than 90% of output. Consumers tend to buy mooncakes through online shopping channels because of the convenience, product variety as well as delivery service.

A survey of many online mooncake stores showed that thanks to discounts, most stores have sold 40-57% of their total available output. The common point of these cakes is that they belong to small brands. For mini cakes, the discount is up to 50%, mainly from Chinese brands.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) also warns consumers about cheap cakes of unknown origin that are widely sold on online groups and markets. Many products contain additives that are not allowed to be used or exceed the permitted limits; foods containing toxic substances; foods that are spoiled due to improper storage conditions...

To protect consumers' rights when shopping online, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy recommends that consumers choose products with clear origins (name of manufacturer, address of production, instructions for use, storage, etc.). Products must be marked with the date of manufacture, expiry date and within the expiry date; not crushed or deformed, not unusually coloured, not stale, moldy, damaged and not have a strange smell.

Meanwhile, in traditional sales channels, prices are stable compared to last year, and major brands are stepping up street stalls or penetrating bakery shops, grocery stores, and supermarkets to reach consumers.

At supermarket systems, besides small retail customers and charitable organizations, many businesses order in large quantities of up to several hundred boxes.

A representative of the Saigon Co.op supermarket chain said that this year, the low-cost mooncake segment was purchased in large quantities by community organizations at the beginning of the season to give to children in difficult circumstances. Meanwhile, the mid-range and high-end segments were also purchased and used by customers with a lot of money.

At MM Mega Market, in addition to decorating with large lanterns, the moon cake counter is located in priority aisles, so there are many customers coming to buy.

This year, the output of moon cakes sold to the market by manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam increased by 5-50% compared to the same period in 2022. A representative of Mondelez Kinh Do - the unit that accounts for 48% of the moon cake market share - said that in addition to the old customer group, the enterprise has reached many new customers. In addition to supplying the market with millions of tons of cakes, this year they also produced 25,000 limited edition cake boxes with a huge weight of 600 grams each.

Meanwhile, Kido also plans to sell 450 tons to the market, an increase of 50% compared to last year. Meanwhile, Bibica is currently increasing its output by 20% compared to last year, reaching 600 tons of various cakes.

With Orion Vina Food Company Limited - a new recruit in the market - launching many unique products such as Hong Kong black pepper roasted chicken, Sakura shrimp, Chocopie Lava lotus seeds...

According to the General Department of Market Management, the size of the moon cake market this year has increased sharply compared to last year. To ensure food safety for consumers, the General Department has directed local market management to review and strengthen inspections of smuggled moon cake establishments.

In addition, market management also coordinates with state management agencies to take samples to test the quality of moon cakes so that consumers can use them with peace of mind.
