Many questions about subject combinations were answered at the online consultation program with the topic "Choosing a major based on subject combinations" organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper yesterday afternoon (December 10).

A student following the program sent a question: "Do the majors of the University of Finance and Marketing have the same or different subject combinations? And is the subject combination for the transcript review method the same as the subject combination for the high school graduation exam score review method?"
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Business Relations Center of the University of Finance and Marketing, said that in 2025, the subject combinations of the school's 17 majors are expected to have one of two main subjects: math or literature. Candidates will have the right to choose the remaining two subjects that they have taken the graduation exam in accordance with the orientation of the major. Accordingly, majors in the same group of majors will often use the same subject combinations.

"Each major in the method of considering transcripts and high school graduation exam scores will use the same subject combinations and the benchmark scores for each combination will also be the same. Only the benchmark scores between the methods may be different," Master Phung informed.
Another student said that if he wanted to study engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, what subjects should he choose to be considered for admission to this major? "If I take math, literature, English, and history, will I be considered or do I have to choose natural sciences?", the student wondered.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Kha, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, students can use subject group D to register for engineering, technology or economics.
"Students can also take the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam and the specialized assessment organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City University of Education to apply for all majors of the university, including engineering," said Dr. Kha.
Low math and literature scores can be replaced by other subjects?
Candidates asked: "What subject combinations does the digital marketing major at the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City consider? Do I need to register for all combinations? If my math and literature scores are low, can I use subjects other than math and literature?". Master Truong Thi Ngoc Bich, Director of the Communication Center of the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the school is considering a plan to have 4 subjects in each combination.
"The school has not yet announced the enrollment plan, but it is expected that all combinations for majors will include two compulsory subjects: math and literature. The remaining two subjects depend on the major group, for example, in the technology group, it could be computer science or technology. If your scores in math and literature are low, the remaining two subjects must have good scores," shared Master Ngoc Bich.

Regarding the question of whether each subject group has its own quota or not and if choosing math, literature, and English to apply for the multimedia communications major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, will the competition be high, Master Vo Ngoc Nhon, Deputy Director of the school's Admissions Consulting Center, informed: "You can rest assured because the quota will be allocated most reasonably for each major and subject group. Math, literature, and English are popular groups, so the group of majors using this group often has a higher quota rate."
According to Master Nhon, multimedia communication is a trending major that many candidates are interested in. Students will be trained in journalism, communications, event organization, production... After graduating, bachelors in this major can work as editors, MCs, content creators...
