Regarding the adjustment of the VIII Power Plan, the Government has recently issued a decision approving the addition and update of the implementation plan for the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. The decision has updated many hydropower, wind power, biomass power and waste-to-energy projects...

To ensure the progress of the implementation of tasks according to the plan set out in the spirit of the Prime Minister's direction, at the meeting, localities gave opinions, recommendations and additional proposals to ensure that the Power Plan VIII is suitable, feasible, and does not miss out on potentials and advantages related to power sources. Thereby, contributing to ensuring energy security to serve the sustainable development of the country, especially in the period of entering a new era.

Previously, according to the Power Plan VIII approved in May 2023, the target set for 2030 is for the total installed capacity of Vietnam's power system to reach about 146,000 MW. The plan also sets a target that by 2030, our country will have 37,467 MW of coal power, 23,900 MW of LNG power, 16,121 MW of onshore wind power, 7,000 MW of offshore wind power and 8,736 MW of large-scale solar power.

However, after more than 1.5 years of implementation, many projects have encountered difficulties and have not been able to be implemented, causing the VIII Power Plan to be at high risk of being behind schedule, affecting the power supply for socio-economic development in the coming period.
