On November 11, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued Decision No. 3479/QD-BGDDT allowing the organization of the Pearson English International Certificate (PEIC) exam at two new testing locations operated by EMG Education in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

This gives Vietnamese students many opportunities to participate in obtaining prestigious international certificates in both paper-based and computer-based formats.

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training has allowed the implementation of an additional form of testing on computers (called the PEIC CBT test), which makes the PEIC test more accessible to a wider range of students.

The PEIC CBT test offers many outstanding benefits to Vietnamese candidates, such as a convenient and flexible test schedule, the top advantage of which is the ability for candidates to choose a flexible test time. The computer-based test will be held with greater frequency, throughout the week.

This is especially useful, helping candidates easily arrange and choose an exam schedule that fits their personal schedule and study progress. At the same time, the results are returned very quickly and the time to receive the results will be significantly shortened compared to paper-based exams.

Just 2-3 weeks after the test date, candidates can know the results through online scoreboards. This is a great advantage that helps candidates promptly use the results and PEIC certificates for their study and work purposes.

More specifically, the test results ensure absolute accuracy. Because the automatic scoring of multiple-choice questions will help minimize scoring errors caused by human factors, contributing to a more fair, accurate and reliable test result.

In terms of value, the PEIC CBT exam is recognized as equivalent to the paper-based exam and it serves a variety of purposes, is highly reputable, and is recognized in many countries around the world.

In particular, the recognition value of the PEIC CBT certificate is completely equivalent to the PEIC certificate in the form of a paper-based exam. In 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 93/QD-BGDDT recognizing the levels of the PEIC English Certificate as equivalent to the levels of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam (KNLNNVN).

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued Circular No. 02/2024/TT-BGDDT amending and supplementing a number of articles of the current High School Graduation Examination Regulations. Accordingly, the PEIC Level 2 exam (equivalent to level 3 of KNLNNVN) is also recognized for use as an exemption from the English exam in considering high school graduation recognition.

PEIC certificates are awarded by Pearson Education Group - one of the oldest and most prestigious educational organizations in the world, and the largest examination board in the UK.

The PEIC test is offered in many countries and is recognised by businesses, universities and government bodies globally, including the UK's Office for the Regulation of Qualifications and Examinations (OFQUAL), the Italian Ministry of Education, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and more.

Thus, in addition to the familiar English standards in Vietnam such as IELTS and TOEFL, the PEIC International English Certificate test scores (including both paper-based and computer-based tests) are used for admission and training purposes at the university level.

PEIC is also applied as an English proficiency standard for students at high school and university levels, opening up many new opportunities and options for English learners in Vietnam.

Where can candidates take the PEIC certification exam?

In Vietnam, EMG Education is the authorized unit to organize the exam for this certificate. EMG Education and Pearson have been approved by the Ministry of Education and Training to jointly organize the exam for this certificate in Vietnam according to the issued decisions.

EMG Education is the only authorized entity to conduct PEIC certification exams.

It is worth mentioning that the cost of taking the exam to get the certificate is reasonable, in which the fee for the paper-based exam is 1,500,000 VND/exam; the fee for the computer-based exam is 2,600,000 VND/exam.
