Female student at specialized school shares secret to getting perfect SAT score of 1600, IELTS 8.0

Nguyen Thi Dieu Anh achieved the maximum score of 800/800 in both the Reading and Math sections. This result was achieved by the Ha Tinh female student on her second attempt. With this result, Dieu Anh is among the rare candidates in the world who achieved a perfect score on the SAT - which requires comprehensive excellence in reading comprehension, reasoning and logical thinking skills.

Sharing with Tien Phong, Dieu Anh said that she was both surprised and happy with the unexpected result. "I was quite confident with my work but I only thought I would get around 1500, not the perfect score," Dieu Anh said.

Dieu Anh not only has impressive SAT results, she is also an excellent student in many fields and has achieved many remarkable achievements. She won first prize in the provincial English competition for excellent students in grades 9 and 12, and second prize in the provincial English competition for excellent students in grades 10 and 11. In 2024, Dieu Anh also achieved IELTS 8.0, of which Writing skill reached 8.0.

Taking the IELTS test early and achieving 8.0 gave Diep Anh a solid foundation for the SAT exam: “In the beginning, I studied 2 sessions/week. In the final stage, about 2-3 weeks before the exam, I had 1-2 study sessions almost every day,” Dieu Anh shared.

To have good study results, Dieu Anh said, her secret is to build a scientific and reasonable daily schedule such as making a list of things she needs to do and the time it takes to complete them, which helps her to do many things effectively.

To achieve a perfect SAT score, Dieu Anh said that she often practiced real test questions a lot. This is the source of material closest to the questions she will take, so she will also be able to orient herself on how to do the test. During the review process, she assessed that she had more difficulty with the Math section, so in the March semester, she focused on reviewing this section.

The female student shared her decision to take the SAT in September 2024 and started studying from there. She studied at a center since the end of December and in the regular class, her homeroom teacher gave her additional guidance.

Possessing two "hard to find" certificates, Dieu Anh believes that, in addition to studying hard, to achieve IELTS 8.0 or higher, one also needs many factors of talent and sharp language thinking. "At lower bands of 7.0 or 7.5, practicing hard is still completely possible, but at higher levels, one must put in a lot of effort," Dieu Anh said.

Dieu Anh shared that her strong subject is English. She was lucky to have a mother who was a secondary school English teacher, so she was exposed to this subject early.

The secret to learning English well, according to this female student, is to practice speaking and using English with the motto of trying in every daily activity and context.

“I learn English in a very natural way. Before each exam, I try to practice as many questions as possible,” the female student shared.

Dieu Anh said that in fact, to get the perfect SAT result today, she had to take the test twice. In her first attempt in November 2024, she only got 1390 - a score lower than expected. The result at that time was not as expected, she was quite sad. She told herself to try harder, determined to put all her effort into the next test and the result was worth it.

Not only is Dieu Anh a good student, she also holds the role of Vice President of BoNE Club - a charity organization and reading culture development organization of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted.

Although she has two international certificates with high scores, the female student from Ha Tinh said that her goal is to study English Pedagogy at Hanoi National University of Education or University of Foreign Languages ​​- Hanoi National University.

“I have loved being a teacher since I was little and this is the right goal for me,” Dieu Anh said.

Sharing about her plans to study abroad, this female student said that she received her SAT results quite late, so she is currently making some adjustments compared to her original plans. She will have further goals such as receiving a full scholarship and studying abroad.
