“At this stage it is an idea,” Minister Sikorski stressed.
He noted that the security agreement between Kiev and Warsaw stipulates that Poland will study corresponding steps.
The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry added that Kiev would not object if Poland shot down Russian military missiles on Ukrainian territory.
Previously, Mr. Sikorsky said that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will not admit Ukraine in the near future, because NATO does not want to participate in this military conflict.
Regarding this issue, on July 10, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Poland will not respond to Ukraine's request to shoot down missiles on its territory unless NATO supports it.
“Unless NATO makes such a decision, Poland will not make it independently,” said Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Earlier, White House National Security Adviser John Kirby said that the US was skeptical about the idea of intercepting missiles moving through western Ukraine from Polish territory. Washington believes that this could lead to an escalation of armed conflict.
After talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Polish President Donald Tusk announced that his country will discuss the option of shooting down missiles moving near the Polish border with NATO allies.
Making clear his views on peace in Ukraine, on July 8, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that no one can decide on future peace in Ukraine without Kiev's participation.
Mr Tusk also noted that Kiev could count on Poland's support regarding Ukraine's aspirations to become a NATO member. In addition, he said: "We are discussing how we can help provide energy to Ukraine before winter."
