According to The Verge , the latest feature Apple added to iOS 17.1 is the ability to continue AirDrop transmissions over a cellular connection if the two connected devices move out of Wi-Fi range after the sending process has begun. This is a feature that Apple first announced at the WWDC 2023 developer conference in June but did not arrive in time for the official release of iOS 17 last month.

The iOS 17.1 update also brings a few other tweaks and additions. First up is a new Love feature for Apple Music, which lets users add songs, albums, playlists, and artists to their library and signal their musical preferences to the app’s recommendation algorithm. The Standby settings menu has been tweaked to give users more control over when the phone’s screen is off when used in this smart display mode.
Some region-specific iOS 17.1 additions are also rolling out. Customers in the UK can now view their bank balances in the Apple Wallet app for supported accounts thanks to integration with the country's Open Banking API. iOS 17.1 is also designed to address issues with iPhone 12s violating radiation exposure limits in France.
Other improvements include expanding the availability of the flashlight indicator in Dynamic Island, where the icon was previously available on the iPhone 15 Pro but will now be available on all iPhones with Dynamic Island.
To download and install iOS 17.1, go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts. iOS software updates don't typically roll out to everyone right away, so you may have to wait before you can download them. An iOS 17.1 notification icon will appear in the Settings app when the update is available.
