Thai Binh Music: Accompanying the development of the homeland

“I came to your hometown on a warm sunny afternoon / The song of the homeland lulls along the waves / Thai Binh, oh Thai Binh / Who named this land Thai Binh since when…”. Released a long time ago, performed by many famous singers, but until now, the emotional lyrics in the song “Warm sunshine of the homeland” are still loved through the voices of People’s Artist Dinh Chieu – People’s Artist Huyen Phin. Accompanying the development of the homeland, songs about Thai Binh composed and performed by artists inside and outside the province are contributing to spreading the beauty of the land and people here every day.

For many years, musician Nguyen Thai Duong, Head of the Vietnam Musicians Association in Thai Binh, has been famous for many music awards at many domestic competitions. He is always proud of generations of Thai Binh musicians as well as the songs that have been associated with the development of the "five-ton homeland".

Musician Thai Duong said: Focusing on the role of artists and writers to inspire the good and beautiful in each person, creating works of art to serve the cause of building the homeland and the country, musicians from Thai Binh across the country through the ages have had many famous works that have been well received by the public. Among them are musician Thai Co with the songs "Rang tram bau", "Qua ben do Quan", "Nghe tieng trong que huong"; musician To Hai with the composition "Hen mua muon ton nam sau"; musician Bui Anh Tu with the song "Anh hay ve que em"... In addition, there have been many famous works about Thai Binh by musicians from other provinces who visited and composed such as "Nang am que huong", "Bai ca 5 ton", "Hai chi em", "Co gai Thai Binh", "Me Thai Binh"... which have realistically and vividly portrayed the land that carries many cultural and historical imprints.

As for musician Mai Cach, although he is now nearly 70 years old, he is always an active member of the Music and Dance Association, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association.

Regarding the development of Thai Binh music, musician Mai Cach shared: Thai Binh music has been considered professional since the last decade of the 20th century. Currently, in the Northern Delta region, the number of musicians of the Vietnam Musicians Association in Thai Binh compared to other provinces and cities is quite large. The musical heritage of Thai Binh musicians is also rich and diverse with many genres such as symphonies, stage music, festivals, folk instrumental ensembles, and the song section alone accounts for about 80% of the musical heritage of most musicians. Talking about Thai Binh music is talking about a multi-style, multi-form and genre song section, skillfully kneaded from folk materials combined with the scholarly nature of modern music. With lyrics imbued with cheo and poetry, many songs have won prestigious awards from the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, and many composition competitions organized by central and local ministries and branches... marking the maturity of Thai Binh music, recognizing the professionalism in song composition of a local music association.

Art programs performed by Thai Binh artists are elaborately staged to serve the people in the province.

To encourage quality compositions by members, 2023 is the first year that the Provincial Literature and Arts Association cooperates with the Provincial Business Association to award prizes for the literary and artistic composition contest on the theme "Enterprises and entrepreneurs of Thai Binh in the cause of socio-economic development". Many Thai Binh musicians have had their works recognized at the contest. From this success, Thai Binh musicians have actively participated in many field trips and composition campaigns in all regions of the country, bringing the breath of daily life into musical works.

Young musician Ky Nam is one of the newly admitted members of the Music and Dance Association, currently working at the Thai Binh Cheo Theater. In 2023, his song "Thai Binh Business Mission" won the B prize at the contest "Thai Binh Enterprises and Businessmen in the cause of socio-economic development", the song "Song of the heroes of the sea" won the C prize in the music category in the campaign to compose literature and art about the Vietnam Coast Guard...

Musician Ky Nam said: In my compositional portfolio, there are currently about 30 works that are being well received by the public. I hope to follow in the footsteps of previous generations of musicians and produce more and more quality songs that reflect all aspects of social life, especially the homeland and country that are changing every day.

Thai Binh artists strive to preserve traditional art in their homeland.

Mr. Pham Tan Anh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association shared: Paying attention to the creative orientation of members, in addition to practical creative activities, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association organized a seminar on "Thai Binh Music in the Renewal Period" which attracted not only a large number of members of the Music and Dance Association but also many researchers, managers, teachers and lecturers of music in schools. The goal in the coming time is that the Association will strive to support Thai Binh musicians to promote their works to the public in and outside the province.

Hopefully, with enthusiasm, passion and desire to compose immortal songs about the homeland, with the practical support of the functional sectors, today's generation of Thai Binh musicians will actively contribute to promoting the beauty of Thai Binh land and people as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
