Heartwarming stories of kindness

Việt NamViệt Nam09/05/2024

Humanitarian Month 2024 starts from May 1-31. Looking forward to the peak month of humanitarian and charitable activities, these days, Red Cross societies at all levels, organizations and individuals with kind hearts have actively implemented practical activities towards the community.

The family of Nguyen Van Cong, born in 1974, and his wife Pham Thi Thuy, born in 1972, are poor in Xuan Ang Ngoai village, Ninh Xuan commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province. The family situation of Cong and Thuy is extremely difficult. Cong is blind in both eyes. Thuy shouldered the responsibility of being the breadwinner of the family, taking care of her paralyzed mother-in-law, her blind husband, and her two school-age children.

Although life is full of difficulties, for Ms. Thuy, happiness is still complete because of her husband's trust and love, and the diligence and good study of her two children. That simple happiness has given Ms. Thuy more motivation to overcome difficulties, trying to make a living to take care of her small family and her children's education. But from August 2023, on the way home from work, Ms. Thuy unfortunately fell and broke a bone, and had to wear a cast for a long time. After recovering, Ms. Thuy continued to work for money to support her family, but unexpected risks struck again. Ms. Thuy fell and broke her bone for the second time, had to be hospitalized for surgery and cast. The doctor also told her that she had osteoporosis. The family's situation was already difficult, and now it was even more exhausted, when the pillar of the family had to lie in one place and could not do anything to take care of the family.

Faced with such a special situation, the Provincial Red Cross Society and members of the Ninh Binh Green Youth Club shared and called on everyone to join. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Linh, Head of the Ninh Binh Green Youth Club, said: The sad story of Ms. Thuy and Mr. Cong's family was widely spread through many connection channels of the club members. After a short time of calling, many brothers and sisters from the Hanoi Cheo Theater, Ninh Binh Cheo Theater, volunteer groups, philanthropists who are Ninh Binh children in Vung Tau city, Hanoi; golden hearts in the province... contributed to create resources to support Mr. Cong's family. On May 7, we coordinated with the Provincial Red Cross Society to visit and deliver gifts from philanthropists to Mr. Cong's family. Hopefully, this amount of money will help the family to some extent ease the difficulties during this time.

Holding the money from the benefactors, Ms. Thuy suppressed her emotions: I am very grateful for the companionship and sharing of the benefactors with my family. These meetings, encouragement and great gifts will help me have more conditions to treat my illness. My only wish is for my health to recover quickly so that I can return home, continue to earn a living, have income to take care of my family, and for my children's education. My whole family really needs me.

Emergency relief and humanitarian assistance are among the key and typical activities of the Red Cross at all levels in recent times. Through propaganda and connection work, emergency relief and humanitarian assistance activities have received the attention and support of many volunteer clubs and philanthropists. Thereby, joining hands to create resources to support difficult cases in the province through movements such as: "Humanitarian Tet"; Campaign "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address"; Program "Giving gifts at the beginning of spring - Multiplying happiness", "Giving gifts to the sick - Welcoming the new year together"; "Community strength - Reviving life"... In the first quarter of 2024 alone, the total value of emergency relief and humanitarian assistance activities reached nearly 7 billion VND, helping over 18,000 people in difficult circumstances in the province, contributing to ensuring social security.

Continuing those meaningful activities, during the Humanitarian Month of 2024 (from May 1-31), Red Cross chapters at all levels, organizations and individuals have actively implemented many meaningful activities towards the disadvantaged such as: giving gifts, scholarships, giving milk to poor children; maintaining regular support for humanitarian addresses, organizing free kitchens for the sick; supporting the construction and repair of "Red Cross" houses...

Mr. Bui Trong Ky, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: Faced with many particularly difficult circumstances, the Provincial Red Cross Society has written propaganda articles in newspapers: Tien Phong, Dan Tri, Ninh Binh Newspaper, Central Association Electronic Newspaper, Provincial Association, Humanitarian Magazine, Humanitarian Television... and social networking sites to mobilize support resources.

There have been many touching stories like fairy tales in real life when many people with serious illnesses have been revived thanks to the help, care and love of the whole community. A typical example is the timely support for Nguyen Gia Long, in Yen Lam commune (Yen Mo district), who suffered from a serious illness, with over 500 million VND for treatment. Currently, Gia Long's health has recovered well; support for 4 orphans in Yen Dong commune (Yen Mo district) with over 800 million VND so that they have the opportunity to continue studying; support for Ms. Phuong and her children in Ninh My commune (Hoa Lu district) with over 50 million VND to repair their houses; and many other typical emergency relief activities... In 2023 alone, the Association at all levels mobilized nearly 27 billion VND, supporting over 55,000 people in especially difficult circumstances in the province.
