Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade has just decided to reduce 50% of tuition fees for the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year for 92 twin students studying at the school.
Twins enter school in the same year, mostly in different majors. However, there are also many pairs of twins who study in the same major, or even in the same class.
Among the 46 pairs of twin students, two pairs were notably born on the same day, same month, same year: September 3, 2003. Many pairs of twins have the same name.
In addition to a 50% tuition discount for twin students, the school also offers a 30% tuition discount for siblings studying at the school.
Statistics show that there are 121 pairs of siblings, meaning 242 students are siblings studying at the school.
Mr. Pham Thai Son - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade - said that the policy of reducing tuition fees for twins and siblings studying at the school has been implemented for many years.
Talking about the reason for doing this, Mr. Son said that a family with two students studying at the same university at the same time, each semester has to pay tuition from 32 to 35 million VND. That does not include the cost of food, living expenses, and accommodation.
Roughly calculated, a family has to spend about 20 million VND/month if they have two children in college. That is too much for many families.
"The school reduces tuition fees so that students and their families can save some money on their studies. This helps families reduce the financial burden of having two children attend college at the same time," Mr. Son added.
