On May 1, Mr. Van Dinh Du - Chairman of Thanh Khai Commune People's Committee (Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province) said that the police have invited 4 people suspected of being involved in the forest fire in this commune to the headquarters to assist in the investigation.
Hundreds of people were mobilized to put out forest fires in Thanh Khai commune (Thanh Chuong district) and Nam Thai commune (Nam Dan district).
According to Mr. Du, earlier on the morning of April 30, people discovered a forest fire starting from the area adjacent to the harvested acacia forest of this household. The forest fire then spread over a large area of forest. Due to hot weather and strong winds, it was difficult to put out the fire. Hundreds of people from many forces were mobilized into the forest to put out the fire.
By 6 p.m. the same day, the forest fire in Thanh Khai commune had been successfully extinguished by authorities and local residents. However, the forest fire had now spread to the forest of Nam Thai commune (Nam Dan district).
The forest fire was brought under control at 10pm on April 30. However, it flared up again on the morning of May 1.
After much effort, by 10 p.m. the same day, the forest fire was basically under control. However, by the morning of May 1, the fire continued to burn in the forest area of Nam Thai commune and continued to spread to the forest in Thanh Khai commune. The authorities of the commune, Thanh Chuong district and Nam Dan district mobilized hundreds of people to continue to go into the forest to put out the fire. By 10 a.m. the same day, the forest fire was finally extinguished.
“Because the people discovered that the fire originated from the forest area adjacent to this household, the police invited them to assist in the investigation to clarify the cause of the fire. This household has acacia forest that had been harvested before,” said the Chairman of Thanh Khai Commune, adding that the police had invited four people to clarify the incident.
Currently, the authorities of Nam Dan and Thanh Chuong districts are calculating the area of burned forest and the damage caused by the above forest fire.
