The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just completed the organization of receiving emergency aid to support overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 and post-storm floods from the embassies of Australia, the UK, India, Switzerland, New Zealand, the US, South Korea and the United Nations (UN).
Ms. Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, said that in recent days, the UN has supported Vietnam in organizing delegations to assess the current situation of natural disaster impacts in a number of localities in areas such as clean water, sanitation, education, agriculture, child protection, etc.
The UN is committed to continuing to coordinate with Disaster Risk Reduction Partners and relevant agencies of Vietnam to mobilize various resources for the above areas, thereby contributing to supporting Vietnam in quickly overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnamese Government has received about 15 million USD and 200 tons of essential goods from international organizations and embassies, which have been and are being delivered to localities to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.
“We hope to continue receiving further support from international organizations and embassies so that localities heavily affected by storm No. 3 and floods can soon restore production and stabilize life,” Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep expressed his wish when receiving aid from the UN and embassies recently.
Up to now, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant parties, has mobilized and received attention from United Nations agencies and international organizations; including JICA (Japan), ASEAN AHA Center, United Nations agencies (UNDP, UNICEF), Samaritan's Purse, etc.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated and quickly transported all the goods to the localities: Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son to support people in flooded areas. It is expected that in the next few days, the organization Samaritan's Purse and the governments of Russia, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia... can continue to support other necessary relief items.
