According to The Verge , the Google subsidiary has confirmed that it is running "a global test to encourage viewers to enable ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium."

The screen displays a warning asking the user to accept the display of ads.

The announcement comes after some people began seeing a new warning that video playback may be cut off if YouTube detects repeated use of ad blockers. An earlier report from Android Authority said the service would prevent users from watching more than three videos when ad blockers were active.

"Detecting ad blockers is not new, and other publishers routinely ask viewers to turn off ad blockers," Google spokesperson Oluwa Falodun said via email. "YouTube says users will receive multiple notifications urging them to stop using these tools before any of their viewing is interrupted. In cases where viewers feel they have been flagged as a false alarm, they can share feedback by clicking on the link included in the prompt."

The moves show the company is strengthening its stance against ad blockers, saying all of those ads are essential for creators to get paid for their content and for the platform to remain free. "YouTube's ad-supported model supports a diverse ecosystem of creators and provides billions of people around the world with free access to ad-supported content," the company said in a statement.

Google is looking to entice more and more people to switch to YouTube Premium

YouTube has been increasingly frustrating its users by rolling out more ads to free-to-view accounts. In September 2022, the company tested serving up to 10 non-skippable video ads. In May of this year, the company announced that 30-second ads would be coming to TV platforms.

Vietnamese users who want to watch videos without being interrupted by ads can subscribe to YouTube Premium for 79,000 VND/month for an individual plan or 149,000 VND/month for a family plan. In November 2022, the company said it had surpassed 80 million YouTube Premium and Music subscribers.
