Requesting airlines to apologize to passengers for canceling some flights to Ho Chi Minh City

(NLDO) - The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just sent a document to Vietnam Airlines regarding ensuring the operation of the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route.

Accordingly, on March 25, a number of flights operated by Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO) to/from Con Dao Airport were canceled due to technical problems with the aircraft, affecting the production line, causing other flights to be delayed or to take off early. The airline had to change the schedule of some flights to/from Con Dao Airport on March 27 and 28.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requests Vietnam Airlines to publicly apologize to passengers affected by the cancellation of flights to/from Con Dao Airport; promptly arrange other flights and means of transport (if appropriate) to relieve passengers at Con Dao Airport.

At the same time, proactively update passengers on VASCO's flight schedules to Con Dao Airport and fully perform the carrier's obligations to passengers in case of flight cancellations or long delays.

According to information from Vietnam Airlines, due to operational reasons, the airline had to cancel 3 flights on March 27 and 3 flights on March 28 between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao.

The airline has mobilized aircraft from other routes to increase at least 3 flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao on March 27 and 1 flight on March 28.

Passengers on affected flights will be supported by the airline in accordance with regulations. A passenger from Hanoi said that after arriving at Tan Son Nhat airport this morning, March 27, he was informed that his flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao had departed 2 hours late.

Con Dao is in its peak season. Round-trip airfare from Hanoi to Con Dao (connecting in Ho Chi Minh City) is about 8 million VND/person if purchased early and up to 14 million VND/person if purchased close to the departure date.

Currently, Con Dao airport only serves aircraft types such as ATR72 and equivalent (Embraer E190/E195 reduced load). After Bamboo Airways returned the Embraer aircraft and stopped flying to Con Dao for restructuring, now only VASCO and the helicopter corporation operate flights to Con Dao.

Due to the "heat" of this route, some airlines are studying the option of leasing aircraft to operate flights to Con Dao airport; The Government has also agreed with the proposal to expand Con Dao airport under the PPP method, which can accommodate large, wide-body aircraft such as Airbus A350, Boeing 787...
