Overnight landslide repair on Ho Chi Minh road

On the morning of November 16, Traffic Police Team No. 2 of the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department of Quang Nam Provincial Police said that in the morning of the same day, traffic on Ho Chi Minh Highway in Quang Nam province had cleared both lanes.

Authorities work overnight to fix landslide on Ho Chi Minh road

Previously, at 7:30 p.m. on November 15, prolonged heavy rain caused a landslide on the Ho Chi Minh road section Km 1377+550 through Phuoc Son district, causing a complete traffic jam. The estimated volume of the landslide was about 15,000 m3 .

After the landslide occurred, the authorities regulated traffic from Da Nang to Kon Tum to Km 1376+740, then turned left onto the Kham Duc Town Ring Road (Phuoc Son District) at Km 1381+470 and vice versa; at the same time, 2 excavators were mobilized to approach the landslide at both ends to clear the soil and rocks.

Quang Nam Province Hydrometeorological Station forecasts that from November 16 to 18, localities in the province will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places will have very heavy rain. The total rainfall is as follows: Localities in the coastal plains and northern mountainous areas of the province will generally have 60 - 160 mm, localities in the southern mountainous areas of the province will generally have 100 - 250 mm, some places will have over 300 mm.

The Quang Nam Province Hydrometeorological Station also warned that heavy rains could cause flash floods in mountainous rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes, small rivers and streams, and flooding in low-lying areas with high population density.

Landslides just occurred on the route

On the morning of November 16, Mr. Thai Trong Thach, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tan Commune (Bac Tra My District, Quang Nam), said that the authorities are repairing the landslide on National Highway 40B passing through the commune.

Previously, at 5:20 p.m. on November 15, National Highway 40B through the Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant area in Tra Tan commune was blocked due to a landslide.

According to Mr. Thach, the old landslide site had just been cleared and cleared on the afternoon of November 15, but in the evening of the same day, rocks and soil continued to slide down the mountainside, burying the road, causing a complete blockage.

To ensure safety, the locality has placed warning signs, guiding people and vehicles that need to travel through this area to temporarily take the detour, going around the main dam and the auxiliary dam of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant.
