Transport infrastructure promotes regional connectivity and economic development

Transport infrastructure is considered the "bloodline" and "backbone" of the economy. In recent times, with the attention of the Central Government, Thanh Hoa province has mobilized maximum resources to invest in infrastructure, including transport infrastructure in a synchronous and modern direction, increasing attractiveness, attracting "eagles" to nest, creating a driving force to promote socio-economic development.

The Resolution of the 19th Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress identified infrastructure development as one of the breakthroughs. Transport infrastructure development is one of the "keys" and "important links" contributing to Thanh Hoa soon becoming a new growth pole, together with Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh, becoming a development quadrangle in the North in the spirit of Resolution No. 58-NQ/TW dated August 5, 2020 of the Politburo on building and developing Thanh Hoa province to 2030, with a vision to 2045. In recent times, Thanh Hoa province has quickly seized opportunities, mobilized maximum resources in the spirit of drastic and strong direction, synchronously implemented investment solutions, completed transport infrastructure, focusing on strengthening the connection of the province's key economic zones, and promoted regional linkages.

The work of building planning, mechanisms and development policies is carried out synchronously, with a long-term vision, one step ahead. Traffic projects are prioritized for capital allocation to ensure concentration, focus, and key points, with the largest investment being in road traffic infrastructure. The central government has invested in the expressway running through Thanh Hoa. Along with National Highway 1 and Ho Chi Minh Road, the Eastern Expressway axis has been invested and put into operation, forming a new external traffic route of the province, connecting regions, areas, and economic centers of the province, the region and the whole country. Some important connecting routes of the province have been completed and put into use in recent times, such as: Project to invest in the construction of a traffic route connecting National Highway 217 with National Highway 45 and National Highway 47; Project of the road connecting National Highway 1 with National Highway 45; Project of the coastal road section through Sam Son - Quang Xuong; Project of the road connecting Thanh Hoa City with Tho Xuan Airport...

Nghi Son Economic Zone (KKTNS) always evokes the image of excitement and bustle. In particular, in recent years, the transport infrastructure of the KKTNS has received investment attention from the Central and the province, thereby creating a driving force to promote investment attraction and socio-economic development of the province and the region.

When we visited the construction site of the North-South Expressway and National Highway 1A to Nghi Son Port project, the rumbling of machinery, the dedication and hard work of the staff and workers "painted" a picture of labor production "bearing the mark of a new era". The North-South Expressway and National Highway 1A to Nghi Son Port project was approved for investment by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 4430/QD-UBND dated December 13, 2022 with a total investment of 1,345 billion VND, starting in February 2024, expected to be completed after 27 months of construction.

During the construction of the project, the Management Board of the investment and construction project of the Thanh Hoa Economic Zone and Industrial Zones has increased the number of officers and engineers to the construction site to direct and supervise the technical and quality of each construction item. Coordinate with functional departments, local authorities where the project passes through and contractors to resolve difficulties and problems. Mobilize people to agree, promptly complete site clearance work, create favorable conditions for the construction unit to ensure progress and quality.

By the end of March 2025, the project's construction units had completed more than 35% of the total construction volume, including the basic construction of 4km of roads; nearly 2km of asphalt concrete; excavation and lowering of the mountain section in Ngoc Linh and Anh Son communes; construction of horizontal drainage culverts; and basic construction of 4/7 bridges on the route. Particularly, the railway overpass and National Highway 47B have completed more than 50% of the construction volume...

Head of Project Management Department 2 (Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects in the Economic Zone and Industrial Zones of Thanh Hoa) Tran Quang Top shared: “This is a large, key project in Nghi Son town that has received much attention from the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee and all levels and sectors. The Board has coordinated and accompanied localities to remove difficulties and obstacles in handing over construction sites; focused on directing the Project Management Board and the construction contractor to focus all resources to implement the construction to ensure progress and quality”.

The Board has been focusing on directing units to implement solutions to overcome difficulties, speed up construction progress, complete the project earlier than planned, and strive to put it into use by the end of 2025. The route plays the role of an inter-regional traffic axis in the region and an external traffic route directly connecting with National Highway 1 and the North-South Expressway; after construction is completed, the route will shorten the travel time between the western districts of the province and the NSKTK, ensuring the transportation of goods and passengers, creating a complete traffic network connecting the North-South Expressway, Nghi Son - Tho Xuan road and regional routes with Tho Xuan Airport and Nghi Son Seaport. At the same time, it will create convenient traffic for industrial parks along the route (including industrial parks No. 3 and No. 4), as well as increase connectivity for coastal tourism.

In the coming time, Thanh Hoa province will continue to synchronously deploy solutions to contribute to completing the infrastructure breakthrough, creating momentum to promote socio-economic development. Mobilizing resources, allocating capital to invest in completing large, key projects, connecting regions, dynamic economic centers, focusing on routes connecting the intersections of the North-South expressway with the economic-political centers of the province, industrial parks, tourist areas, urban areas, seaports, airports...

Traveling on the roads connecting the regions or the bridges connecting the happy shores, we feel more clearly than ever the development of the transportation system in the province. This has been creating a strong attraction for investors and businesses, opening up new space, continuing to arouse the motivation for Thanh Hoa province to develop strongly and sustainably.
