This is the first time Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports have exceeded US$1 billion in the first months of the year. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the fruit and vegetable industry is expected to set a new export record this year.
However, the export market is gradually having stricter regulations, making it difficult for export enterprises to compete. According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, to ensure the export of goods to other countries, enterprises need to ensure product quality. The fact that more than 80% of exported fruit products are fresh is also a disadvantage. To improve quality and increase value, the industry needs to invest in deep processing and diversify products instead of just selling raw goods.
According to the General Statistics Office, the import and export turnover of goods in April 2024 is estimated at 61.20 billion USD, an increase of 15% over the same period last year. In the first four months of 2024, the total import-export turnover of goods reached 238.88 billion USD, an increase of 15.2% over the same period last year. Of which, exports increased by 15%; imports increased by 15.4%. |
The export turnover of 5.6 billion USD is a record figure that the fruit and vegetable industry achieved last year. According to experts, along with building and managing good growing areas to create raw material areas that meet sustainable export standards and harvest control, timely updating of technical requirements from importers will help agricultural products access large markets, aiming to achieve the export target of 6-6.5 billion USD of fruits and vegetables this year.
