Accordingly, the export turnover of fruits and vegetables in the first half of the year reached 229.4 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, the above results increased by 50%, equivalent to an increase of more than 76 million USD and reached approximately the figure of the whole month of January 2023.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT) said that in the history of the fruit and vegetable industry, there has never been a year with an export turnover of 5 billion USD.
China continues to be the largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables with a turnover of 3.64 billion USD in 2023, an increase of 139.5% compared to 2022 and accounting for 65% of the country's fruit and vegetable export turnover last year.
In 2023, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports will reach 5.6 billion USD, up 67% compared to 2022, the highest figure ever. China continues to be the largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables with a turnover of 3.64 billion USD in 2023, up 139.5% compared to 2022 and accounting for 65% of the country's fruit and vegetable export turnover last year.
Accordingly, in 2024, after negotiating and signing a protocol with China, Vietnam will officially export coconut products, frozen fruits and watermelons. Not to mention, frozen durian may be allowed to be imported into this country. Mr. Nguyen said that if frozen durian is allowed to be exported to this market, the export turnover of vegetables and fruits in 2024 will continue to grow.
As for the United States, this market has opened its doors to Vietnamese grapefruit and coconut. These factors have helped increase fruit exports to this market by about 30% by 2023. In addition, grapefruit and lemons have entered the New Zealand market. This is a very good market for grapefruit and seedless lemons in Vietnam. These factors have contributed to the remarkable growth of fruit and vegetable exports.
With impressive results last year and optimistic forecasts, many experts believe that fruit and vegetable exports in 2024 could set a new record with an estimated figure reaching or even exceeding 6 billion USD.
