According to the Ministry of Health, currently, food service establishments and street food are becoming more and more popular with diverse forms, especially in Hanoi and many large cities. These shops, besides being convenient, also pose many potential risks of food safety due to unsatisfactory storage and processing conditions, the use of ingredients of unknown origin, as well as the risk of contamination with microorganisms and toxic chemicals.
To protect consumers' health, the Ministry of Health recommends that the Hanoi Department of Health proactively coordinate with local functional units to strengthen monitoring, inspection, and compliance with food safety regulations, strictly control the source of raw materials, food additives, and frying oils, especially for grilled meat, skewers, fast food, etc. at food service establishments, street food, and food around schools; strictly handle violations of food safety regulations, etc.

Currently, shops, stalls, and carts selling fast food such as grilled meat skewers, fried balls (shrimp, chicken, fish, seafood, beans, crab sticks, etc.) are flourishing in Hanoi, especially in areas with many schools, such as the streets: Nui Truc, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Tran Duy Hung, Nguyen Quy Duc, Trieu Khuc, etc.

These skewers, along with their eye-catching colors and attractive flavors, are also sold at very cheap prices: 2,000 - 10,000 VND/skewer and most of them are fried in pans of black oil, so they are called "dirty skewers" by young people. To attract customers, especially students, many places even sell "skewer" buffet combos with drinks for only 50,000 - 59,000 VND/person, allowing you to eat as much as you want, filling up on different types of "skewers".
The Ministry of Health recommends that consumers, especially students, when choosing a restaurant should prioritize places with clean grilling areas, staff wearing gloves, avoid restaurants with unusually colored skewers, bad odors, or dark, residue-filled frying oil, and limit eating in dusty areas, places with lots of traffic, smoke, and dust, and places that do not ensure food safety.
