Lack of Vietnamese “big size” fashion brands

In recent years, there have been more and more big-size fashion brands (clothes for plus-size people). However, most of them are international brands, while products designed and produced by Vietnamese people are quite rare.

Hard to find…

On a trip back to Vietnam, Ms. Pham Thi Bich Phuong (also known as Happi Pham or “Rapunzel”, living in Melbourne, Australia), spent the whole day searching for a big-size fashion brand that suited her chubby (round, plump) figure.

Ms. Phuong is quite interested in domestic brands that sell dresses and skirts. Although she saw many designs that she liked, she could not buy any because they did not have the right size. Somewhat confused by this reason, Happi Pham began to research and realized that the clothing market in Vietnam had very few options for people with chubby figures.

According to her, most women pursue a “skinny” style, so fashion brands in the Vietnamese market also focus on serving this customer segment. People with chubby figures have difficulty finding suitable clothes. “There are many clothes that I really like but they don’t fit me, so I feel self-conscious when I go shopping. Sometimes the size fits, but the design reveals many flaws that make me lose confidence,” Ms. Phuong confided.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Nam, an office worker at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai (District 3) also shared: “I am 1.71m tall and weigh over 110kg, so choosing clothes is quite difficult. Although I support Vietnamese products, these are rare and hard to find products, while foreign products dominate the domestic market, so I have to choose foreign products.”

There should be more Vietnamese brands.

Recently, Happi Pham made a separate clip talking about the difficulty of buying clothes because of her “fleshy” body shape. The clip immediately became popular, attracting nearly 2 million views and thousands of comments. Many people expressed sympathy and said that they often encountered similar situations.

Looking through some domestic and international fashion shows, it is easy to see that the pioneering nature of these shows has caused women to embark on strict diets. In addition, strong promotion from social networks, movies, etc. has caused many people to seek extreme weight loss regimens, causing anorexia, malnutrition, seriously affecting health and spirit, etc.

Faced with the above reality, many customers hope that fashion brands in Vietnam should promote clothing designs for people with chubby figures, so that everyone can wear the clothes they like, highlighting each person's unique beauty.

Pham Thi Bich Phuong (Happi Pham), 32 years old, is nicknamed “Rapunzel” because of her naturally long, black, and silky hair. Her social media platforms have attracted over 1 million followers. Happi Pham regularly shares natural hair and skin care recipes on these platforms.
