According to GSMArena , HyperOS is still an open source Android project but will be merged with Vela - Xiaomi's IoT platform. This operating system will first appear on the Xiaomi 14, a product line launched later this year in China before appearing on the international market in the first weeks of 2024.

HyperOS will be the platform available on future Xiaomi devices

In a post on Weibo, Lei Jun said HyperOS would put “people at the center of the ecosystem,” connecting them to other people, cars, and homes. Jun said his team started with “just a few engineers” but has now grown into a large company with a software workforce of nearly 5,000 people.

According to Jun, the number of Xiaomi product users has increased from 100 to more than 1 billion since Xiaomi's first MIUI product was launched on August 16, 2010. The MIUI user interface at the time of launch had "only four common functions" but is now a multi-device service for phones and home appliances.

Xiaomi is said to have been preparing for the launch of HyperOS since 2014 when the world of IoT was just starting to emerge. The company took the first steps in 2017 and then developed a new ecosystem for devices and applications with the goal of helping connect “tens of billions of devices” in the future. As mentioned, the first step will be the Xiaomi 14 series.

It is likely that future Xiaomi phones will launch with HyperOS, while previous high-end devices will receive the update via OTA protocol.
