Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao said that this is the first official visit to Hungary by a Vietnamese Prime Minister after 15 years. This is also the first Prime Minister-level meeting since the two countries upgraded their relations to Comprehensive Partnership in 2018 and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is the first high-ranking guest to be officially welcomed by host country Prime Minister Viktor Orban in 2024.
In the context of the general difficulties of the world economy, geopolitical instability and despite the geographical distance, the visit aims to affirm the importance of the relationship between Vietnam and Hungary, the only Central Eastern European country with a comprehensive partnership with us, to consolidate political trust, maintain high-level contacts, exchange measures to deepen political and diplomatic relations, strengthen cooperation in multilateral forums, promote cooperation in traditional areas such as economics - trade - investment, defense - security, development cooperation, education - training, health, environment, culture - tourism, etc. At the same time, the visit will promote cooperation in potential areas such as high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, labor, technology - information, digital transformation, green transformation, etc.
The two Prime Ministers will discuss measures to support and promote Vietnam-EU and ASEAN-EU cooperation in the context that Hungary will hold the rotating presidency of the European Council in the second half of 2024, showing that Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge for Hungary to enter the ASEAN market, and hopes that Hungary will be a gateway for Vietnamese goods to penetrate the regional market. The visit is an important milestone in the overall policy of the Party and State to continue implementing the foreign policy set forth by the 13th National Party Congress on independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, and demonstrating respect for Vietnam's traditional friends.
Ambassador Nguyen Thi Bich Thao said that during the visit, the two Prime Ministers will witness the signing of cooperation documents in a number of areas such as diplomacy, culture, water management, cooperation between universities of the two countries, etc. The Prime Minister will also attend the Vietnam-Hungary Business Forum, meet with the business communities of the two countries, promote finding solutions to strengthen economic and investment cooperation; visit the Embassy and meet with the Vietnamese community in Hungary. The Prime Minister will visit Hungarian enterprises, speak at the Hungarian National University of Public Administration, sending a strong political message, affirming that Vietnam is a reliable and responsible partner, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Regarding two-way trade, the Ambassador said that this is one of the bright spots in the bilateral relationship, achieving impressive growth, from 354 million USD in 2017 to over 1.2 billion USD in 2022. Vietnam is always in the top of Southeast Asian countries exporting to Hungary. The Ambassador believes that with the close attention of senior leaders and the practical and effective work content, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit will create new developments to promote the Comprehensive Partnership to become increasingly stable and sustainable, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.
Making a new push with Romania
As Prime Minister, returning to the beautiful country of Romania, where the head of the Vietnamese Government once studied, researched and worked, the visit will certainly bring him special emotions.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Romania Do Duc Thanh, the visit affirms that Vietnam continues to attach importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, which has been painstakingly built and nurtured since the two countries established diplomatic relations 74 years ago.
With valuable support and assistance to each other, over the years, that relationship has continued to be demonstrated at international forums, in the signing and ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, in the evacuation of Vietnamese citizens from the conflict in Ukraine as well as in supporting the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Romania.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Romania has aroused untapped potentials, creating a "push" for the substantive relationship between the two countries, for the benefit of each side, regaining momentum after a period of stagnation due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the complicated situation in the region, the world as well as the difficulties of the global economy. That is the expectation and belief not only of the Ambassador himself, but also of many Romanian friends who love Vietnam and Vietnamese friends who love Romania, placing in this visit of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Do Duc Thanh affirmed.
The Ambassador said that during the visit, the Prime Minister will discuss with Romanian leaders measures to continue promoting and boosting cooperation, especially in areas with great potential. In particular, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu will open the Vietnam-Romania Business Forum, meet with the business community, witness the signing of a series of cooperation documents, visit economic establishments, schools, research institutes, meet with some Romanian friends and the Vietnamese community...
Following the success and results achieved from a series of bilateral visits and international forums by the Head of Government in 2023, we have every reason to expect that the Prime Minister's visit will open up new, more practical and effective cooperation opportunities with WEF partners and long-time friends Hungary and Romania.
