With the advantage of a 2-0 victory after the first leg, coach Kim Sang Sik made a safe choice with a balanced lineup between attack and defense. Midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan returned to the starting lineup to pair with Hoang Duc in the middle of the field. Ngoc Tan's powerful sweeping style of play is a muscular addition to the somewhat soft Hoang Duc. Above, Xuan Son continues to play as a striker with the support of Ngoc Quang (left) and Hai Long (right). This is a new combination and brings a lot of anticipation to the fans.

The victory of personal mark

The players on the field were completely in line with coach Kim Sang Sik's intention to play slowly and steadily. Despite trying to play leisurely and leisurely, the Vietnamese team still did not create the feeling of complete control of the match. The "Golden Star Warriors" used too many long balls and did not create any breakthroughs. On the contrary, the Vietnamese defenders continued to make fans uneasy with many unfocused ball handling situations. One of such situations made the Vietnamese team's net shake. In the 11th minute, Faris Ramli put the ball into the net of goalkeeper Dinh Trieu but the goal was not recognized due to an offside error. But this was a warning for the Vietnamese team in the following minutes. Although they did not play well, once again the Vietnamese team continued to get what they wanted: a goal. In the 38th minute, Xuan Son was pulled down by a Singapore defender in the penalty area. After consulting VAR, the referee awarded the Vietnamese team a penalty kick. On the free kick, Xuan Son easily fooled the Singapore goalkeeper, scoring the opening goal of the match (minute 45+1). In the 63rd minute, the Vietnamese team found a goal to double the gap. Hoang Duc   broke through on the right wing and then crossed inside, the ball hit the Singapore defender's foot but Xuan Son was there at the right time and easily scored to raise the score to 2-0. Both of Vietnam's goals did not have the mark of coordination, making the fans feel unsatisfied. Even Tien Linh's third goal for the Vietnam team in the 90+2 minute also came from the 11m mark.

The final awaits

After leading 2-0 in the second leg (4-0 aggregate), the Vietnamese players were somewhat complacent. This helped the Singapore players create many storms towards Dinh Trieu's goal and find an honorary goal in the 73rd minute by Kyoga Nakamura. This goal came from a rather unexpected long-range shot, but it must be admitted that the midfielders of the Vietnamese team let their opponents be too comfortable. Not only did they play somewhat complacently, the Vietnamese team also lacked alertness when players continuously received undeserved yellow cards in the final minutes of the match. But the biggest concern of the Vietnamese team was not only the penalty cards but also the injuries of Tan Tai, Van Thanh, Xuan Manh... In the game where they were leading the opponent deeply, the Vietnamese team could not preserve their strength. Coach Kim Sang Sik also did not have this policy at all. This was really a disadvantage for the Vietnamese team when there were still two final matches ahead. However, reaching the final of the ASEAN Cup is also a result that coach Kim Sang Sik and his team have satisfied the home fans. The Vietnam team is facing the opportunity to win the Southeast Asian championship for the third time in history after winning the title in 2008 and 2018.

Coach Kim Sang Sik: "I bet my whole career on the ASEAN Cup"

After helping the Vietnamese team win the right to play in the final of the ASEAN Cup 2024, coach Kim Sang Sik affirmed his determination to win the championship. At a press conference after the Vietnam - Singapore match (3-1) on the evening of December 29, coach Kim Sang Sik said: "We are very happy to have reached the final. This achievement comes from the enthusiastic support of the fans. Besides, there are the tireless efforts and determination of all team members to give their all. The journey is not over yet, the Vietnamese team will go further. I bet my entire football career on this tournament." The return match against Singapore was the first time the Vietnamese team scored in the first half. Mr. Kim said: "I am very satisfied with that. The players were a bit nervous when entering the match, but in the end they scored. After 6 matches, the team has only conceded 3 goals. That is the effort of the players. The coaching staff will watch the semi-final match between Thailand and the Philippines. We have ideas and plans for the final match. The players just need to perform as well as they have in the past, and continue to prepare carefully."
