On the afternoon of December 10, in Quang Nam, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) coordinated with the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and the People's Committee of Quang Nam province to organize the first International Conference on Rural Tourism.
Attending the event were Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long; Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic, Deputy Secretary General of UN Tourism; Mr. Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee and more than 300 delegates from national and local management agencies of member countries, international organizations, tourism communities and private sectors of about 50 countries and territories.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that tourism is an important economic sector, a "smokeless industry", contributing increasingly to the economies of countries and is a development trend of the future.
Most countries in the world are very interested in investing in developing tourism in a green, friendly and sustainable direction. Currently, there are many rich and diverse forms and models of tourism such as cultural tourism, eco-tourism, resort tourism, discovery tourism, medical tourism, etc.; in which, rural tourism is becoming more and more popular and developed.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long added that developing rural tourism not only promotes economic transformation, reduces the development gap between rural and urban areas, but also promotes, honors, preserves, enriches, develops and spreads unique local values, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, bringing a better life to the people.
In particular, UN Tourism is expanding the implementation of the “Tourism for Rural Development Program” to contribute to the protection of natural and cultural resources, community empowerment and job creation. This is a very meaningful program and is consistent with the three pillars of sustainable development: economy, society and environment.
In the coming time, to continue to strongly promote tourism development in general and rural tourism in particular, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long shared that it is necessary to have a comprehensive approach to ensure unity in awareness and action on sustainable rural tourism development; Rural tourism development needs to be based on core issues such as: Always putting the long-term interests of the local community first; Providing authentic experience values for tourists, while respecting and preserving the good and unique values of rural areas to spread and last forever.
It is necessary to increase the exchange of experiences and share good models and good practices in rural tourism development; It is necessary to promote international cooperation and strengthen public-private partnerships in rural tourism development; Vietnam is ready to continue to actively cooperate with the international community and the UN Tourism Organization to implement new initiatives and practices to develop rural tourism according to the motto "each village, one product"; "each person is a tourism ambassador"; "each locality - a unique tourism product".
At the Conference, Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic, Deputy Secretary General of UN Tourism, said that this conference is not only a meeting but also a milestone for the world tourism industry.
Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic believes that rural tourism will be put at the top of the global agenda to unlock the enormous potential of rural communities, turning their stories into a source of global inspiration and opportunity.
According to Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic, the conference reflects UN Tourism’s strong commitment to prioritizing rural development as a platform for global recovery and sustainable development.
