Vietnam has the fastest growing number of millionaires in the world.

The data comes from a recent report by South African global wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth and Swiss investment migration advisory firm Henley & Partners, which looked at the number of people with a net worth of $1 million or more between 2013 and 2023.

The US still leads the world in the number of millionaires with more than 5.4 million, but emerging economies such as Vietnam, China and India are seeing the fastest growth.

According to this report, the number of millionaires in Vietnam reached 19,400 people by the end of last year, equivalent to an increase of 98% over the past decade. Of which, the number of people with assets of more than 100 million USD was only about 58, while the number of billionaires reached only 6 representatives.

Vietnam’s millionaire growth rate is high, partly due to a low initial comparison base of just under 9,800 people in 2013. However, New World Wealth and Henley & Partners said that the rapid growth of millionaires in Vietnam reflects recent economic success and shows that the trend of wealth accumulation continues to increase.

Previously, New World Wealth also predicted that Vietnam would witness the world's most explosive wealth growth, up to 125% in the next 10 years. Analyst Andrew Amoils of this unit assessed the above figure as the fastest growth rate compared to any country, in terms of GDP per capita and the number of millionaires.

With a 62% increase, the US still has the largest number of millionaires globally. China is now home to nearly 1 million millionaires, becoming the second country to reach this milestone after the US.

In contrast, the UK has seen a slight decline in the number of millionaires over the past decade. Factors such as Brexit and other economic uncertainties have contributed to the fluctuations, highlighting the challenges facing developed economies.

African countries like Nigeria and South Africa have also seen their millionaire populations decline, partly due to emigration and economic instability. Nigeria’s struggles with currency devaluation have further dented its wealthy class, while South Africa saw a significant 20% drop in its millionaire population.
