Cannot demolish old bridge

Mr. Tran Quoc Toan, technical officer of Dat Phuong Group No. 2 (construction contractor) said that the old Sa Dec bridge (Sa Dec city, Dong Thap) had a clearance of 20m and a height of 4.6m. Meanwhile, according to the design, after raising the clearance, the new bridge has a clearance of 38m and a height of 7m.

The contractor is having difficulty raising the clearance of Sa Dec bridge in Sa Dec city (Dong Thap).

To construct the new Sa Dec bridge, the contractor built a temporary bridge and basically completed it on August 20. Currently, the contractor has completed the installation of traffic signs according to the instructions of the professional agency.

"According to the plan, after the temporary bridge is completed and opened to traffic, during this time, the contractor will dismantle the old Sa Dec bridge and start construction of the new bridge," said Mr. Toan.

Mr. Toan added that up to this point, the temporary bridge has not been opened to traffic and the contractor must add some items according to the requirements of related units.

"In the original design, the temporary bridge did not have a railing on both sides of the bridge using B40 mesh, lighting, and anti-slip on the bridge surface. After completing the temporary bridge, we had to add these items," Toan shared.

According to Mr. Toan, the contractor has completed the construction of railings on both sides of the bridge and anti-slip surface. As for the lighting installation, the contractor will complete it today.

"After the contractor completes the remaining items on the temporary bridge, one or two days later, the contractor will proceed to dismantle the old Sa Dec bridge," Mr. Toan informed.

Impact on construction progress

According to Mr. Toan, in addition to the above reasons, the delay in moving the domestic water pipeline across the old bridge is also greatly affecting the progress of raising the clearance of Sa Dec bridge.

The fact that the temporary bridge cannot be opened to traffic and the old bridge cannot be dismantled has greatly affected the progress of raising the clearance of Sa Dec bridge.

"The contractor requested the relocation of the domestic water pipeline very early, but it was not until August 29 that the relevant units completed the relocation. This led to the contractor's construction plan being somewhat disrupted," said Mr. Toan.

Mr. Toan added that the contractor started the Sa Dec bridge clearance raising project in April 2024. Up to now, after four months of construction, the contractor has only completed a temporary bridge and the progress has only reached 35%, behind schedule.

"The reason for the delay in construction is that all the contractor's initial calculations did not go according to plan. For example, the contractor's initial plan was to work through the National Day holiday on September 2, but the old bridge could not be dismantled yet, so it could not be done," Toan shared.

Mr. Toan continued to inform that the contractor planned to dismantle the old Sa Dec bridge on August 20, but up to this point, it has been 15 days late and the temporary bridge has not been opened to traffic, so the contractor's construction work at the site is facing many difficulties.

"The old Sa Dec bridge will take 60-70 days to dismantle. But currently, the contractor has not been able to do it yet. Delaying the dismantling of the old bridge will affect the next stages of work and may greatly affect the progress and completion of the project," said Mr. Toan.

Sa Dec Bridge has a total land area to be recovered of 1.51 hectares, with a total number of households to be compensated of 83 households.
Hong Ngu Bridge has a total land area to be recovered of 1,665 hectares, with a total number of households to be compensated of 95 households.
The total land area to be recovered at Giong Gang Bridge is 1,665 hectares, with a total of 3 households to be compensated located on the side of DT842 in An Phuoc commune, Tan Hong district (Dong Thap).
