Taking advantage of her free time, Ms. Tran Thi Kieu (born in 2005, 2nd year student of the University of Medical Technology) invited her friends to join the volunteer activity "Clean Up Son Tra - For a green Son Tra" with the desire to contribute a little effort to clean up Son Tra and protect the environment.
Ms. Kieu is one of about 300 volunteers, representing young people who love the environment from schools, clubs, associations, groups, companies... in the city participating in the program "Clean Up Son Tra - For a green Son Tra".
The program took place with activities such as: photo exhibition with the theme "Son Tra - Green Destination"; workshop "Red-shanked douc langur - Pride of Da Nang city"; tree planting at Ban Co Peak area and walking to pick up trash, cleaning the roads in Son Tra peninsula (in areas such as: Le Van Luong street, the road from Ho Xanh to Linh Ung pagoda, the intersection of Hoang Sa - Le Duc Tho streets, etc.).
After collection, the volunteers will separate the garbage into two categories: plastic waste and other types of waste. Volunteers can use the collected garbage to exchange for trees from the organizers.
Volunteers divided into small groups and went along the streets to collect trash. |
Volunteers exchange trash for plants after the activity ends. |
“Clean Up Son Tra - For a green Son Tra” is an annual activity, first held in 2011. The program always attracts a large number of volunteers to participate every year.
The program aims to spread the message of green living; propagate and raise public awareness of environmental protection; mobilize people and tourists to participate in biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection movements in Son Tra Peninsula; build and promote the image of green tourism in Son Tra with the message "Son Tra Peninsula - Green Destination".
The activity involved foreign volunteers. |
At the end of the activity, more than 700kg of garbage (plastic bags, plastic bottles, foam boxes...) was collected by volunteers.
