Every afternoon, when the city lights up, Ms. Nhung's small room lights up with the eager eyes of her students. The students come from many different backgrounds - some are orphans, some have been struggling since childhood, some have considered dropping out of school because their parents are divorced and their family is in difficult circumstances. At first, Ms. Nhung only tutored H., a girl who lost her mother, her father left her, and lived with her deaf-mute aunt. After two years of being mentored by her, H. was confident enough to apply to learn a trade to take care of her family. Just like that, the class gradually grew in size because of Ms. Nhung's love. She said she couldn't bear to turn down those innocent eyes, eager for knowledge, so she rearranged the tables and chairs in the middle of the living room, opening the door to welcome nearly 20 students every day.
As a literature teacher, in addition to writing, Ms. Nhung often listens and shares the psychology of the students. Once, H., a boy who intended to drop out of school because his parents divorced, sat quietly at the back of the class. For many sessions, H. rarely picked up a pen to write. Realizing that silence, Ms. Nhung gently approached and patiently started a conversation. Little by little, she helped H. realize that even though life was not fortunate for him, he could still decide his own path.
Also in this class, M. - a girl born into a poor family - was moved to tears when she first held a book of Doraemon in her hands. She slowly turned each page, her eyes shining with a simple joy that she had never had before. Since then, every afternoon in M.'s class was a happy afternoon, when she was loved and encouraged by her teacher and friends. Ms. Nhung said that not everyone has the conditions to help others, but if possible, please take a little time, patience and love to help the dreams of those who are unfortunate.
Admitting that she is only a temporary mother, Ms. Nhung does not expect anything in return. What she worries about is how to help children stand firm in the future, regardless of their circumstances. Therefore, in addition to teaching, she also quietly prepares snacks for her students, sometimes a loaf of bread, sometimes a carton of milk, so that they have enough energy to continue their studies. In particular, every month she regularly organizes birthday parties for her students in her own classroom.
Anyone who has visited this small classroom can feel the warm, close atmosphere. The laughter of the students combined with the teacher's slow teaching voice creates a simple but meaningful space. There are no achievement boards, no flashy certificates of merit, but this place has been training children who know how to love and make efforts. The story of the "Happy Classroom" has become a great source of inspiration for the community. In many other places in the city, free classes have been born one after another, continuing the spirit of teacher Nhung. It can be said that in a world full of changes, sometimes what a child needs is not only books, but also a tolerant embrace, an encouraging look or a timely word of encouragement.
Perhaps, the most wonderful thing that Ms. Nhung brings is teaching children how to love, believe in humanity, and the children who grow up from the class will carry that belief into life. And who knows, one day, they themselves will continue to spread love, lighting up other happy classes in everyday life.
